Mangaluru, Apr 20: The Karnataka state unit of the Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Mahasabha has dropped hints about forming an alliance of hardline Hindutva fringe groups without the Bharatiya Janata Party, the political arm of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.

Addressing media persons in the city on Friday, Mahasabha’s Karnataka state president N Subrahmanya Raju said that non-BJP Hindutva groups would be contesting in 150 constituencies across the state in May 12 assembly polls.

As per the plan Mahasabha will field 30 candidates, while Sampoorna Bharatiya Kranti Paksha (SBKP) and Sri Ram Sena’s Pramod Muthalik would field 15 and 35 candidates respectively. In a few days a coalition of Mahasabha, Hindu Janajagruti Samiti, Sri Ram Sena, Shiv Sena, and SBKP would come into existence in Karnataka, he said.

He said that Mahasabha was registered as a political party in 1912. However, post independence it had lost recognition just because Nathuram Godse, who assassinated Mahatma Gandhi, belonged to Mahasabha.

He said that though Mahasabha had been supporting BJP candidates for the Hindutva cause, the latter had long abandoned its Hindutva ideology. “Now BJP once again announced B S Yeddyurappa as its chief ministerial candidate in spite of the fact that he was the first CM in the history of the sate to go to jail,” he said.

He alleged that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah was desperately wooing the minority communities to come back to power. The entry of Mahasabha was inevitable at this juncture when the ruling Congress was pursuing anti-Hindu policies, he added.

The Opposition BJP in the state was not effective in opposing these policies, he said adding that majority of Hindus would give a fitting reply to the Congress in the coming elections.

Bengaluru, Jul 22: Karnataka Congress President DK Shivakumar on Wednesday urged Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa to waive all property taxes in urban local and rural panchayats for a period of one year as citizens are bearing a huge financial brunt of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Taking to Twitter, Shivakumar wrote, "Citizens are bearing a huge financial brunt of the Corona Pandemic. It's imperative on the government to ease the financial burden on citizens. I urge CM B.S. Yediyurappa to waive all property taxes, in urban local bodies and rural panchayats, for a period of one year on humanitarian grounds."
In yet another demand, Shivakumar on Tuesday said the state government should give details of the amount it spent on migrants and labourers during the coronavirus crisis if it is transparent.

"The image of Karnataka has come to a very rotten position. We all know that Karnataka has failed in sorting out the problem. Let them (the state government) tell what has been the amount spent on the labour, migrants and food kits on the health department. We want an account (of the expenditure) if they are so transparent," Shivakumar said.

He said the state government should have approached the hospitals for treating COVID-19 patients and if any private hospital refused, a message should have been given that the government would take it over.

He also accused the state government of corruption.

Chennai, July 27: Multi-lingual actress Vijayalakshmi, who attempted suicide yesterday, alleging harassment and bullying by followers of Naam Thamizhar party leader Seeman and Panankattu Padai’s Hari Nadar, is recuperating at a hospital in Chennai.

Vijayalakshmi is known for films like Friends and Boss Engira Baskaran. She recently made headlines for speaking against Seeman and the torture she was allegedly facing from the actor-turned-politician and his party.

In the video which was uploaded on Sunday evening, Vijayalakshmi said, “This is my last video and I have been in tremendous stress in the last four months because of Seeman and his partymen. I tried my level best to survive all these days because of my mother and sister, but I have been humiliated in the media by Harinadar recently.”

She added, “I would like to tell fans who are watching the video just because I was born in Karnataka, Seeman has tortured me a lot. As a woman, I have put up with it to my highest capabilities. I won’t be able handle the pressure anymore. I am from the Pillai community, the same community LTTE leader Prabhakaran is part of. Prabhakaran is the only reason Seeman is who he is today, but now he has been harassing me on social media continuously. You slut shamed me to make me feel the pain and it is up to me to decide on what to do after facing such insults from you. I request my fans not to let Seeman get away from this case. He should never get anticipatory bail. My death should be a big eye-opener to everyone. I don’t want to be a slave to anybody.”
