Chikkamagaluru, Jul 26: A group of Hindutva activists brutally assaulted two migrant workers from northeast India after calling them Bangladeshi terrorists' near Alduru town in Chikkamagaluru taluk on Monday.

hinduThe injured have been identified as Ohijul Sikdar (32) and Tamsorali, both were part of a group of labourers from Assam. Among them Sikdar was seriously injured when a gang of 10 activists pushed him, and hit his head, back and limbs. He was lying on the road unconscious by the time police reached the spot.

The police rushed him to the government hospital in Alduru and later to the district hospital in Chikkamagaluru, where he is said to be recovering.

The incident happened around 8.30 p.m. when around 60 people, including a few children, from Assam, all hired by various estates as plantation workers, reached Alduru town in a private bus.

The workers from Assam had reached Bengaluru by train. As there was no KSRTC service on the day, they hired a private bus to reach Alduru.

As they were walking towards their respective estates, a group of Hindutva activists stopped them and asked them go back to their native land. They allegedly called them “terrorists from Bangladesh” and said they should no longer work in Chikkamagaluru. They picked up an argument with two of them and beat them up, according to the complaint registered in Alduru Police Station.

Following the incident, Alduru police registered a case on charges of attempt to murder and rioting against 10 people. Six of the accused were arrested by Tuesday morning. The arrested are Tejas, Sharat, Shivakumar, Manu Kumar, Rohit and Sudarshan. “Four other accused are absconding,” said K. Santosh Babu, Chikkamagaluru Superintendent of Police.

Govt should spare no time in arresting the leaders of the terrorist organisatins to brutually attacked inidans from other states. These terrorists have no right to be called as Indians as they have no respect for the co-Indians. Shame on your Hindutva terrorists. Govt should ban these terrorist organisations and kick out their leaders out of Indian mainland. Hoswever, i am sorry to say that no Govt will take that step. Instead of arresting the terrorists i doubt that innocents migrants will be arrested and punished for no fault of theirs.

Kozhikode, Jun 14: A mosque in Kuttichira of Kozhikode has found a unique way to avoid crowding amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The committee that runs the mosque has started issuing smart cards to people for offering prayers and simultaneously encouraging social distancing.

"The committee has given smart cards with numbers to the people in the surroundings of the Masjid. One who enters the mosque premises has to rub their hands with sanitizers. They also have to tell their identity on camera. The automatic system has been put in place to save the address and phone number. Next time onwards they have to say their smart card number only so that other details will be automatically filled," said Muhammad Sajjad, who is part of the Mosque committee.

"The door of the mosque will open automatically after swiping the card. We have fit in a sensor on the doors. We have also made marks inside the mosque area so that people can abide by social distancing norm," he added.

A couple of days back the Kerala government has rolled out an order allowing the opening of places of worship, malls and restaurants from June 9 in strict accordance with guidelines and social distancing norms. As per the guidelines, pregnant women and those with co-morbidities should not visit any places of worship. Those with symptoms should not be allowed.

Bhopal, Mar 10: Senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh on Tuesday parried questions on the exact number of MLAs supporting the party in Madhya Pradesh amid a political crisis triggered by the resignation of Jyotiraditya Scindia and 14 MLAs loyal to him.

Repeating his allegation that the BJP was trying to destabilise the Congress-led government, Singh told reporters that the BJP had arranged three chartered planes for Bengaluru on Monday to fly out some MLAs loyal to Scindia.

"We want to know why Bengaluru is used every time to destabilise governments?" he questioned.

When asked about the number of MLAs supporting the Congress in the current political scenario, Singh only said, "Just wait".

He said an atmosphere of uneasiness has been prevailing in the BJP since the Kamal Nath government started cracking a whip on various mafias.

"We (the state government) are exposing Vyapam scam, e-tendering scam, Madhyam scam. In the honey-trap case, BJP men were found to be involved. This will be exposed," he said.

The political crisis in Madhya Pradesh precipitated with the resignation of Jyotiraditya Scindia over his apparent marginalisation in the state politics. Following Scindia's suit, 14 legislators loyal to him have sent their resignation letters via e-mail to Madhya Pradesh Raj Bhavan.

Scindia was subsequently expelled from the Congress by party president Sonia Gandhi.

Speculation that the Guna royal might join the BJP gained ground after he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi this morning.

Bengaluru, May 16: Health Minister B Sriramulu has sought the aid of Home department for curbing sex work in certain parts of the state - which continues unabated despite lockdown.

“It poses health risks to those involved. I request the department to ensure that the business is prohibited at such a time of crisis,” he stated in a letter to Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai.

At the same time, in order to ensure the safety of these workers, Sriramulu has asked both the Health department and the Karnataka State AIDS Prevention Society (KSAPS) to come up with a detailed report on rehabilitation of sex workers and transgenders.

The Health minister’s order was prompted by a letter by writer and activist Roopa Hassan. The writer, who was earlier member of a panel (led by actor-turned-politician Jayamala) on the study of issues faced by sex workers, had sought government’s intervention to stop condom distribution to registered sex workers and transgenders, as continuing work during pandemic was posing health risks to the community.
