Mangaluru, Dec 20: In an apparent case of hit and run, a school teacher lost his life when an unidentified vehicle knocked him down during a morning walk on Wednesday at Guruvayanakere in Belthangady taluk.
The deceased has been identified as Dinakara Hegde (45), a resident of Guruvayanakere, who worked as a teacher at a government school.
A case has been registered at Belthangady police station. Body has been sent for post-mortem.
Mangaluru, July 18: A man and his son have been arrested for torturing an elderly woman in Savanalu under Belthangady police station limits in Dakshina Kannada.
The arrest came after a video clip of the duo beating the woman went viral on social media.
According to police, the duo has been identified as the woman’s son Srinivas Shetty and her grandson Pradeep Shetty.
The accused had allegedly been torturing the 70-year-old ailing woman and the video of the same has gone viral on social media.
The police have booked a suo moto case under Indian Penal Code 323, 504 and section 24 of Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007.
Uppinangady, Feb 16: Eleven people were injured, when a private bus in which they were travelling, toppled near Kodikal on Sunday, police said.
According to Police, more than 20 people were travelling in the bus towards Puttur from Sakleshpur when the mishap took place.
All the inmates were on their way to attend a wedding.
Manglauru, July 30: There will be no congregational prayer on Eid Al-Adha at the historic Eidgah mosque in Mangluru’s lighthouse hill this year due to covid-19 pandemic.
The decision to suspend the Eid prayers in Eidgah was taken as per the guidelines issued by the State Board of Auqaf, said Haji Y Abdullah Kunhi, president of Zeenat Baksh Central Juma Masjid and Eidgah Masjid.
However, Eid prayer will be held at Zeenat Baksh Central Juma Masjid on July 31 at 7 a.m.
Muslims in coastal Karnataka will be celebrating Eid al-Adha on July 31 whereas Muslims in other parts of Karnataka and India are celebrating the festival on August 1.
