Mangaluru, Dec 20: In an apparent case of hit and run, a school teacher lost his life when an unidentified vehicle knocked him down during a morning walk on Wednesday at Guruvayanakere in Belthangady taluk.
The deceased has been identified as Dinakara Hegde (45), a resident of Guruvayanakere, who worked as a teacher at a government school.
A case has been registered at Belthangady police station. Body has been sent for post-mortem.
Mangaluru, Jul 6: Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh has rubbished the social media rumours about lockdown in the district from July 8 to 25.
The Viral Rumour
A false message which is going viral on social media including WhatsApp claims that several organisations in Dakshina Kannada in a meeting have unanimously decided observe lockdown from July 8 to July 25. During this period essential services will be available only till 1 p.m.
DC’s clarification
“Don’t believe in such false rumours. Currently the lockdown is from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Every Sunday there will be total lockdown till August 2. People should continue to maintain social distance and follow all the guidelines to prevent the spread of covid-19,” said the deputy commissioner.
Uppinangady, Feb 9: Two members of a family were killed after the car collided with a tanker on the NH 75 at Bedrody near Uppinangady last night.
Police said on Sunday that the deceased have been identified as Jainy Saji (30) and her elder brother Jeeson (40).
Jainy and Jeeson were going to Uppinangady when a tanker, coming from the opposite direction, rammed into their car.
Mangaluru, May 2: Fishermen in the coastal districts fear that the fishing season ending on May 31 every year might be rescheduled early this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a statement department of fisheries on sturday said fishing season is closed for 61 days every year before the arrival of the monsoon.
As per the data with the Fisheries Department, this year the number of fishes caught has set a record.
