Mangaluru, Dec 20: In an apparent case of hit and run, a school teacher lost his life when an unidentified vehicle knocked him down during a morning walk on Wednesday at Guruvayanakere in Belthangady taluk.
The deceased has been identified as Dinakara Hegde (45), a resident of Guruvayanakere, who worked as a teacher at a government school.
A case has been registered at Belthangady police station. Body has been sent for post-mortem.
Mangaluru, Feb 13: Jnandev Kamath, former President of erstwhile Mangalore Stock Exchange Limited died late last night in a private hospital in the city.
He was 65 and is survived by his wife and two daughters.
Jnandev Kamath was an alumnus of SDM College of Law and Business Management.
He was one the founding members of Mangalore Stock Exchange Limited. He was an avid sportsman, an accomplished cricketer, a champion rallyist and golf coach.
He often played for Pentlandpet Sports Association (PPSA) in his younger days.
Madikeri, Feb 23: Back-to-back floods and landslides in the last two years, has led to a fall in the number of tourists coming to the coffee-growing region of Kodagu, forcing the district administration to intervene and take confidence-building measures, telling tourists that Kodagu was safe to visit.
According to the statistics of the Karnataka State Tourism Department, Kodagu recorded a moderately good number of tourists in 2018 and 2019, the years that the district witnessed devastating floods and landslides.
The Department’s statistics reveal that 17 lakh tourists visited Kodagu in 2018 and 18 lakh in 2019. This means the flood-ravaged years did attract tourists contrary to what the stakeholders had claimed.
