HJV activists among 3 arrested for violence during funeral procession

Mangaluru, Jul 12: Dakshina Kannada district police has arrested three more persons in connection with the stone pelting during the funeral procession of slain RSS activist Sharath Madivala in BC Road on Saturday.funeral

According to sources, two among the three arrested are members of the Hindu Jagarana Vedike a hardline Hindutva organization. With these fresh arrests, the number of total arrests is up to 15.

Meanwhile, leaders of the Sangh Parivar have alleged that they were falsely implicated in connection with the stone-pelting incident during the funeral procession on July 8.

They maintained that the procession was peaceful and some miscreants threw stones when the rally reached Kaikamba, near Bantwal.

Sandesh Shetty, BJP Yuva Morcha general secretary, alleged that some Hindu leaders who were present at the spot during the incident were also booked by the police.

It could be recalled here that suspected saffron activists were caught on camera while collecting stones on road during the funeral procession of Sharath Madivala.

Bengaluru, Jul 8: Karnataka has drafted 1,246 government employees into the crucial task of contact tracing to fight the coronavirus pandemic, and they have been warned of action if they refuse to work.

These are Group A, B and C employees from various departments who have been asked to report to senior IAS officer V Manjula, who heads a task force on Covid-19 contact tracing.

In an order, Chief Secretary TM Vijay Bhaskar on Tuesday said additional human resources were required to strengthen contact tracing, which is “a very important part” of controlling the spread of Covid-19.

Mangaluru, Mar 26: About 2,771 people are home-quarantined in the wake of the novel coronavirus in Dakshina Kannada district here, Deputy Commissioner said on Wednesday.

"Meanwhile, about 20 people have completed the mandated 28 days of quarantine, DC Sindhu B Rupesh said in a statement here.

More than 38,000 people from the district have been screened and seven are admitted and are under observation, he added.

Bantwal, Jun 29: Seven SSLC students, who were on their way to write the examination, were injured in a road mishap near Panemangaluru on Monday.

According to sources, the auto-rickshaw in which the students were travelling overturned causing them injuries.

All the injured were students of Shambur Government high school.

Police said the accident took place as the driver lost control over the vehicle.
