Home portfolio for Ramanath Rai: High command approves CM’s proposal

Bengaluru, Aug 18: Chief minister Siddaramaiah is learnt to have got his entire wish list approved by the Congress high command this time. If sources are to be believed the CM has got the green signal to fill the three vacancies in the cabinet and give the home portfolio to forest minister B Ramanath Rai

The three vacancies will be filled next week with K Shadakshari, a Lingayat (MLA from Tiptur), HM Revanna (Kuruba) and RB Thimmapur (Scheduled Caste), both MLCs, taking oath as ministers. Siddaramaiah did the biggest cabinet reshuffle in June 2016, when he dropped 14 ministers and inducted 13. He filled up the only vacancy in September.

The three vacan cies follow the death of minister HS Mahadev Prasad, resignation of minister HY Meti after a video involving him was circulated, and G Parameshwara quitting after his term as KPCC president was continued. 

Rai is expected to handle home ministry, which Siddaramaiah has looking after Parameshwara quit. Rai, who is from Bantwal, is an old Congressman and was put in charge of managing law & order when RSS activist Sharath Madivala was stabbed to death in July.

Kanhangad, May 10: Kasaragod district has become free from COVID-19 on Sunday.

The last remaining patient has been tested negative for coronavirus, said district medical officer Dr. A. V. Ramdas.

He added that the officials are proud to have been able to cure all 178 COVID-19 patients in the district.

Bengaluru, Mar 20: Two COVID-19 positive patients in Karnataka have fully recovered and will be discharged today.

Karnataka Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakar said: "Two COVID-19 positive patients have completely recovered and will be discharged tomorrow. They will be kept under home quarantine for 14 days as a precautionary measure."

The number of COVID-19 positive patients in Karnataka stands at 14 as of today.

"The total number of positive cases of COVID19 in India stands at 173, including 25 foreigners. Four deaths (1 each) have occurred in Delhi, Karnataka, Punjab and Maharashtra," said the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in a statement.

According to official data provided by the Ministry of Health, as many as 15 people infected with the virus have been discharged after receiving treatment.

Mangaluru, July 13: A week-long lockdown will be imposed in Dakshina Kannada from the night of July 15, according to district in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary.

The decision was taken in a meeting of elected representatives in the presence of Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh. The DC is expected to issue guidelines for the lockdown soon. 

In a video message, Poojary said that during the video conference, chief minister B S Yediyurappa asked the administrations and elected representatives of the respective district to take a call on re-imposing lockdown to check the mounting coronavirus cases. 

“We have decided to impose a week-long lockdown from the night of July 15. Hence, people should buy all necessary things for a week before the beginning of lockdown,” he Mr Poojary.
