HOPCOMS opens organic outlet in Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Nov 8: The first organic outlet of Dakshina Kannada Horticultural Producers’ Cooperative Marketing and Processing Society (HOPCOMS) was inaugurated at Karangalpady in Mangaluru city on Wednesday.

Named Amrutha the outlet sells organic vegetables and groceries produced by the farmer members of the Dakshina Kannada, Chikkamagaluru and Udupi Districts Regional Cooperative Organic Farmers Associations Federation Ltd and other such regional federations in the State, said Joe Pradeep D’Souza, managing director of Dakshina Kannada HOPCOMS.

Basavarj R. Patil, president, Karnataka State Cooperative Horticulture Marketing Federation Ltd., Bengaluru, said that the federation would provide Rs. 40 lakh to the Dakshina Kannada HOPCOMS for building a procurement centre of horticulture produces and a modern retail outlet at Baindoor in Udupi district.

The federation has sanctioned Rs. 30 lakh for automation of all its 16 outlets in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts.

He said that the federation has opened Amrutha outlets in Kalaburagi and Chitradurga now. The outlet in Mangaluru was the third one in the State. Mr. Patil said that the federation is planning to open Amrutha outlets in all the districts as there is demand for it.

Mayor Kavita Sanil, who inaugurated the outlet, urged the federation to set up such outlets in other parts of the city also.

Mr. Patil said that the federation would consider the request, if the corporation provided land for setting up such outlets.

Anilraj D.M., president, regional federation of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Chikkamagaluru, said that there was good demand for Savayava Santhe being organised in Udupi on Sundays. Now, the federation is planning to open an outlet in Udupi to sell organic produces on a daily basis.

Mangaluru, Jun 17: A private flight chartered by UAE-based NRI hotelier Praveen Shetty has brought home around 175 people from United Arab Emirates.

This is the third flight chartered by Mr Shetty, chairman of the Fortune Group of Hotels, and president of the Karnataka Non-Resident Indian Forum, to repatriate his employees and other stranded Kannadigas.

The Air Arabia flight with 168 adult passengers and six infants on board took off from Sharjah International Airport at 9:45 pm (UAE time) on June 16 and landed at Mangaluru International Airport at 2:50 am Indian Standard Time on June 17.

Mangaluru, July 30: Under the KKMA Dream House (Home for Homeless) project, the Karnataka Branch of Kuwait Kerala Muslim Association built two new houses at Nelyadi in Puttur taluk (house # 12 & 13) and handed over the keys on 29th July 2020 to the two widows as an Eid al-Adha gift for them.

Mr. S.M. Basha, president of Sea Food Buyers Association, Mangaluru, Mr. Sajid A.K, president of Highland Islamic Forum (HIF), Mangaluru, Mr. S.M. Farooq, president of KKMA Karnataka State Committee and Mr. Abubakker Thumbay, Vice President of Karnataka Branch Religious Affairs graced the occasion as Chief Guests.

Mr. S.M. Basha along with other dignitaries handed over the House # 12 key to a widow with three daughters at Bail house in Nelyadi and Mr. Sajid A.K. handed over the House # 13 key to another widow with two children at Alampadi in Nelyadi. 

Ustaad Haneef Saqafi, Qateeb Badriya Juma Masjid Nelyadi, Advocate Ismail, Ex-President and present committee member, Abdul Qader, Secretary of Jamaat, Taj Umar, Treasurer of Jamath, City Abbu, Ex-President of Jamath were present.  Ustaad Haneef Saqafi did the dua prayers. Mr. Abdul Rehman,  Contractor of the two houses was also present.

Kuwait Kerala Muslim Association being a leading Social Service Organization is an Extrordinary organization of ordinary people has successfully implemented several social development projects in Kerala and Karnataka states. KKMA Karnataka branch has previously handed over 11 houses for homeless at different places in Dakshina Kannada District.

Shivamogga, May 21: A quarantine facility at Bapuji Nagar in Shivamogga on Wednesday evening was vandalised, by a group of people. leading to chaos.

The police had to resort to baton-charge to control the situation.

Locals were opposing the facility, which is being used to isolate travellers from different states in the view of coronavirus.

Deputy Commissioner KB Sivakumar said that the police department will investigate and book a case against the protesters.
