Horrific: Two Indigo planes almost collide in mid-air

August 3, 2016

collideGuwahati, Aug 3: Two Indigo aircrafts miraculously escaped colliding with one another over Guwahati, leaving some passengers and crew members shaken and needing medical aid, officials said on Wednesday.

At least four passengers and two cabin crew were shaken by the near disaster, a spokesman for Indigo Airlines said. The passengers complained of giddiness while the cabin crew needed first aid.

The incident took place on Tuesday evening when an Indigo flight from Mumbai to Guwahati was about to land at the Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport.

Just then, an Indigo flight bound for Chennai took off, crossing the flight path of the first aircraft.

"The IndiGo flight en route to Guwahati experienced turbulence due to monsoon," said the Indigo spokesman, adding this caused it to climb down by 250-300 feet, just when the Chennai-bound aircraft was taking off.

The spokesman said the flight finally made a normal landing. The four passengers and two cabin crew were given medical assistance.

Udupi, Jul 22: Deputy Commissioner G Jagadeesh on Wednesday announced lifting of ban on movement of people and vehicles with immediate effect in the borders of Kerala which was banned during lockdown.

The announcement comes hours after Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa announced that lockdown in Bengaluru and other parts of the state will not be extended any further, suggesting people should wear masks and maintain physical distancing strictly.

Mr Jagadeesh noted that although the seal down of the borders of the district would be lifted, checkposts on the border would be set up and urged people to enter the district only in case of emergency.

New Delhi, Jul 21: A 42-year-old contractual doctor, who was working with Delhi government's National Health Mission, passed away yesterday due to covid-19.

Dr Javed Ali had been on the frontline in the fight against the highly contagious illness since March. He tested positive for coronavirus on June 24 and was hospitalised for treatment over the next three weeks.

For the last 10 days, he was on a ventilator. Yesterday morning, Dr Ali breathed his last at the AIIMS trauma centre. He is survived by his wife and two children - a six-year-old son and a 12-year-old daughter.

"I am proud of my husband. He kept working till the end and he is a martyr. He did not take even one day off since March. He worked even on Eid," Dr Heena Kausar, his wife, told media persons.

The cost for the initial treatment at the private hospital was also borne by the family. "No treatment cost was covered when he was at a private hospital initially. We spent around Rs 6 lakh from our own pockets," she said.
