Hospitalisation cost: Gujarat, Assam most expensive; Karnataka lowest in South

Getting hospitalised is most expensive for people living in rural areas of Gujarat when compared to other rural parts of the country, says a fresh report by the Central Bureau of Health Investigation (CHBI). The data also shows that getting hospitalised is most expensive in Assam for urban households.

According to the National Health Profile 2017 published by CBHI, each hospitalisation in urban Assam charges a whopping Rs 52,368, which is seven times the cost in urban Delhi. Similarly, the average cost per hospitalisation case in rural areas was Rs 32,500 in Gujarat, over four times as expensive as in Uttar Pradesh (Rs 7,242).

South Indian states

The report also reveals that hospitalisation cost in Karnataka - both in the rural and urban areas - is the lowest among the south Indian states.

The average hospitalisation cost per person is Rs 12,578 in rural Karnataka whereas the figure increases to Rs 15,011 in the urban settings. The cost that includes both medical and non-medical expenditures is the least among the six southern states.

While Goa (Rs 32,211 in rural and Rs 37,049 in urban areas) is the costliest on both counts, the hospitalisation charges for urban areas of Andhra Pradesh (Rs 33,671), Maharashtra (Rs 26,374) and Kerala (Rs 24,202) are also on the higher side, according to the report prepared by the Central Bureau of Health Intelligence (CBHI) under the Union Health Ministry.

Karnataka is closely followed by Tamil Nadu in terms of affordability. Hospital stay in urban Tamil Nadu would cost Rs 15,751 while in rural areas of the southern-most state it would cost Rs 12,648 per person on an average.

Jeddah: The first chartered flight for repatriation passengers from Jeddah to Bengaluru organized by Karnataka NRI Forum Jeddah – Saudi Arabia was successfully landed at Bengaluru airport by 01.00 am on 19th July 2020.

Spice Jet (SG9884) departed from King Abdul Aziz International Airport Jeddah by 05.00 pm local time with 177 stranded passengers which includes 12 Pregnant Woman, 3 infants, 44 Short term visa holders, 3 medical emergency patients and 115 migrate workers and labours from various districts of Karnataka state.

Karnataka NRI Forum Jeddah, a registered charitable organization under Government of Karnataka & Indian Consulate Jeddah - Saudi Arabia, helping the Kannadigas overseas & in Karnataka State as well, has initiated major role for helping stranded Kannadigas to travel back to home. During Pandemic hundreds of stranded Kannadigas were approached to the forum and requested to arrange special chartered flight to Bengaluru from Jeddah.

Initiating from collecting the data of passengers, the forum’s special panel including its President Mr. Mohammed Mansoor, Secretary Mr. Peter Mascarenes, Vice Presidents Mr. Nasir Khurshid, Dr.Ashfaque Maniyar, Chief Coordinator Mr. Shaikh Saoud, Cultural Secretaries Mr. Arifulla Shariff and Mr. Rajesh Suvarna, Treasurer Mr. Habib Rahman and Press Secretary Mr. Baig, the forum’s members have worked very hard to conclude this task very successful. 

The forum provided food packets as refreshment, complementary PPE kitsto each passenger as precaution against the spread of any infections while travelling and also guided all passengers by supporting them in Awdha portal (Saudi Passport Department) and Seva Sindhu portal registration of Government of Karnataka.

The official travel partner ITL Travel Management Company has rendered remarkable service to the passengers not only in ticketing but also supported with top priority in confirming the aircraft from SPICE JET and availed good service from ground staff at Jeddah Airport. 

All passengers have reached safely to their homes after completing the 7 days institutional quarantine at Bengaluru. 100% passengers had NEGETIVE report on Covid-19 test made on arrival as well as after institutional quarantine. 

In the press release published from the President, Mr. Mohammed Mansoor has expressed his prodigious gratitude to the Ambassador of India to Saudi Arabia H. E. Dr. Ausaf Sayeed, Deputy Consul General of India - Jeddah Mr. Y Saber and Chief Minister of Karnataka State Shri B. S. Bengaluru,  Mar 26: The nationwide lockdown in the view of coronavirus outbreak has driven some people to the edge. In Karnataka, within less than 24 hours, two cases of people creating trouble for police personnel have come to light.

On Wednesday, a middle-aged man was shot in his leg by the police after he tried to assault two police constables of Sanjaynagar police station. The police constables were identified as Manjunatha and Basavararaju.
The accused reportedly breached the check post at Bhoopasandra. He and his friends were over-speeding and performing stunts on bikes. When the policemen tried to secure them after giving them a chase, they attacked the cops.

When they were taken into custody, one of them again tried to escape and hurled stones and bricks on the cops. In order to prevent further assault, the police then fired two rounds – one in the air and the second one on his left leg.

Udupi, Apr 25: Senior RSS leader H Somashekhar Bhatt received a call from Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday enquiring about his health.

Bhatt got emotional hearing the Prime Minister's voice at the other end, family sources said.

The Prime Minister called at 8.30 AM and began the conversation with 'Somashekharji' and spoke for about six minutes.

The 85-year-old veteran recalled how the Jana Sangh came to power in Udupi municipality under the leadership of V S Acharya in 1968 and about his association with the Sangh Parivar through the decades and his imprisonment during the Emergency.

Bhatt, former Udupi municipality president, later said it was a rare honour for him.

"I am very glad that PM Modi called and spoke to me. I shared the experience of meeting him at the Jaipur session.

Asked to take care of health and expressed concern," he said.

The Prime Minister has been calling senior functionaries of the party who worked for the Sangh Parivar in the time of adversities to build up the BJP in its present form and seeking advice from them.

He had also called in recent days former MLA Ram Bhat who was elected from Puttur in Dakshina Kannada and D H Shankar Murthy, who was former chairman of the state legislative council, BJP state president Nalin Kumar Kateel tweeted.
