House passes resolution for rollback of demonetisation

November 16, 2016

New Delhi, Nov 16: The Aam Aadmi Party-dominated Delhi Assembly on Tuesday passed a resolution at a special session of the Delhi Assembly urging the President to direct the Centre to immediately roll back the demonetisation of high-value notes.

kamuDelhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi took Rs 25 crore as bribe from a corporate when he was the Gujarat chief minister. He demanded a Supreme Court-monitored probe into the allegations that the demonetisation scheme has been launched to benefit a particular political party.

He also demanded an inquiry into the bribery allegation.

The session saw stormy proceedings and had to be adjourned for 15 minutes soon after Kejriwal tabled the resolution, amid sloganeering against Prime Minister

Narendra Modi by ruling AAP MLAs.

Leader of Opposition Vijender Gupta was marshalled out of the Assembly for disrupting the CM’s speech.

Launching a scathing attack on the Modi, Kejriwal said he is the prime minister of the rich and enemy of the poor. He said that Modi had taken a bribe to the tune of Rs 25 crore in his position as the Gujarat chief minister.

“Modi is the prime minister of the rich and his friends. He is the enemy of the poor. The Income Tax department had conducted a raid at the office of Aditya Birla Group in 2012-13. When questioned, the accountant said that he received the money in the form of hawala and gave it to Subhendu Amitabh, who is the group executive president of the Aditya Birla Group,” Kejriwal said.

He said that when the documents of the company were scrutinised, it showed that Rs 25 crore and 12 guns were given to CM Gujarat. On questioning, Subhendu Amitabh said that the money was received from Gujarat Alkalies and Chemicals, the AAP leader said.

Kejriwal claimed the IT department gave its report and said that the answers received were unsatisfying and evasive. He also accused the Congress of being a party to the crime with BJP and so no action was taken even after a report given by the IT department.

“The Congress government did not take any action because they were scared that the BJP would come in power and probe against Robert Vadra,” he said.

Highlighting the plight of the common people, the CM said that several people have been dying by committing suicide because of the tension to meet the expenses of their daughter’s marriage. But Modi’s rich friends are not affected by this, he said.

“I read in the paper that Janardhan Reddy’s daughter is getting married and Rs 500 crore is being spent for the occasion. However, he was not seen standing in the queue neither he is under any kind of pressure to gets the notes exchanged. Where is he getting the cash from,” questioned Kejriwal.

The CM said that people should be given a month’s time and the government should come out with the proper planning. “The people should be given time and we will support the government to fight corruption and eradicate black money. If this is not done then the entire economic condition of the country will go downhill,” he said.

New Delhi, Apr 15: The Union Health Ministry has identified 170 districts as COVID-19 hotspots and 207 districts as potential hotspots, officials said on Wednesday, reiterating that there has been no community transmission of the disease in the country so far.

Addressing the daily briefing to provide updates on coronavirus situation in the country, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Health Lav Agarwal said that states have been asked to classify districts which have reported a higher number of cases as hotspots, the districts where cases have been reported as non-hotspots, and green zones where no cases have been reported.

"Hotspots are those districts which are reporting more number of cases or where the rate of growth of COVID-19 cases is high," Agarwal said, adding a detailed direction has been issued to states stating consolidated efforts are required to utilise this period of lockdown to curb the spread of the virus.

"Cabinet secretary held a video conference today with all chief secretaries, DGPs, health secretaries, collectors, SPs, municipal commissioners and CMOs where hotspots were discussed and orientation on field level implementation of containment strategy was given.

"They were told about large outbreak containment strategies, cluster containment strategies. Delineation of buffer and containment zone, parameter mapping, defining of entry and exit points were also discussed in detail," he said.

The joint secretary said movement of people will not be allowed in containment zones except for those related with essential services and special teams will search for new cases and samples will be collected and tested as per sampling criteria.

The officials said that health facilities in buffer zone outside the containment zone will be oriented and people facing SARI and influenza-like symptoms will be tested there.

"Special teams have been formed which will work in containment zone and do contact tracing and house-to-house surveys. Cases of fever, cough and breathlessness will be identified in the survey and requisite action will be taken as per protocol," Agarwal said, adding that there has been no community transmissions so far but some local outbreaks.

The total number of COVID-19 cases in India has risen to 11,439 with 1,076 fresh cases reported in the last 24 hours while the death toll stands at 377, the ministry official said.

New Delhi, Jun 19: Petrol price on Friday was hiked by 56 paise per litre and diesel by 63 paise a litre, taking the cumulative increase in rates to Rs 7.11 and Rs 7.67 per litre respectively in less than two weeks.

Petrol price in Delhi was hiked to Rs 78.37 per litre from Rs 77.81, while diesel rates were increased to Rs 77.06 a litre from Rs 76.43, according to a price notification of state oil marketing companies.

Rates have been increased across the country and vary from state to state depending on the incidence of local sales tax or VAT.

This is the 13th daily increase in rates in a row since oil companies on June 7 restarted revising prices in line with costs, after ending an 82-day hiatus in rate revision.

In 13 hikes, petrol price has gone up by Rs 7.11 per litre and diesel by Rs 7.67 a litre.

The freeze in rates was imposed in mid-March soon after the government hiked excise duty on petrol and diesel to shore up additional finances.

Oil PSUs Indian Oil Corp (IOC), Bharat Petroleum Corp Ltd (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corp Ltd (HPCL) instead of passing on the excise duty hikes to customers adjusted them against the fall in the retail rates that was warranted because of fall in international oil prices to two decade low.

International oil prices have since rebounded and oil firms are now adjusting retail rates in line with them.

Jaipur, Jan 26: Rajasthan on Saturday on Saturday became the third state in the country to pass a resolution urging the Centre to repeal the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

he resolution was passed in the state Assembly amid opposition by the BJP which accused the ruling Congress of pursuing appeasement politics.

It is the second Congress-ruled state to pass such a resolution after Punjab. The Kerala Assembly too had passed such a resolution against the CAA moved jointly by the ruling Left Front alliance and the opposition Congress-led UDF.

The Rajasthan Assembly resolution, passed by voice vote, also asked the Centre to withdraw the new fields of information that have been sought for updation of the National Population Register (NPR) 2020.

"It is evident that the CAA violates the provisions of the Constitution. Therefore, the House resolves to urge upon the government of India to repeal the CAA to avoid any discrimination on the basis of religion in granting citizenship and to ensure equality before law for all religious groups of India," the state's parliamentary affairs minister Shanti Dhariwal said, moving the resolution.

Leader of the opposition Gulab Chand Kataria of the BJP questioned the state's right to challenge the Act.

"Granting citizenship is a matter for the Centre. In such a situation do we have the right to challenge the CAA? The Congress should stop doing appeasement and vote bank politics," he said.

Salute to Rajasthan Govt for rejecting communal and black CAA bill.   This bill is agaisnt the teach of our Constitution and bjp has never done anything as per our constitutin.   Its trying its best to scrap the constitution and restore it with RSS agenda.    We should oppose any move by bjp against the value of constitution.   As bjp has no respect to our constitution, it has no right to be in power.    Many of bjp leaders are giving statemetns against the value of constitution and such leaders should be treated as anti indians and action be taken on them.
