Kannur, Oct 10: The Kerala police have recovered a huge cache of weapons from the office of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Kannur district following a raid.

The police have seized steel bombs, swords, iron rods and other sharp weapons from the BJP office in Panoor area of Kannur. The raids were conducted after a tip-off from the local residents living in the area around the office.

The development comes in the wake of a recent attack on a CPM rally, allegedly by RSS-BJP activists. At least five CPM workers and four police personnel were injured when a procession of the Left party workers was attacked with country bombs in Kannur district in Kerala.

Only a few days ago, Amit Shah had slammed the Left government in Kerala over the political killings of BJP and RSS workers in the state. Senior CPM leader then hit back at the BJP, saying it was actually a case of "the pot calling the kettle black" and that the BJP had always resorted to clashes and violence to expand their presence in the country.

The BJP recently launched the Jan Raksha Yatra, which was also attended by Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath to protest against the killings of BJP and RSS cadres in Kerala.

Kannur, a politically volatile district in Kerala, has a history of clashes involving CPI(M) and BJP-RSS workers. Since May 2016, a total of eight political murders have taken place in Kannur - 3 CPM activists and 5 BJP activists.

According to statistics available with state crime bureau, 45 CPM activists, 44 BJP activists, 4 Muslim League activists and 15 Congress activist have been killed since 1991 in the district.

Dubai, May 18: An Indian working in a mining company in the UAE has become the latest expatriate to have lost his job for hate-filled social media posts targeting Islam and Muslims.

Brajkishore Gupta was fired without notice for calling Indian Muslims 'coronavirus spreaders' and hailing the Delhi violence as 'divine justice' in his Facebook posts.

Gupta, who is from Chapra, Bihar, was employed by Stevin Rock, a mining company headquartered in Ras Al Khaimah city.

"This isolated incident involving a junior employee was investigated and dealt with immediately resulting in the termination without notice of this person's employment with Stevin Rock," said the company's business development and exploration manager Jean-Francois Milian.

"Our company policy supports the direction of the UAE government in promoting tolerance and equality and strongly renouncing racism and discrimination and we have sent communications to all of our employees irrespective of their religious or ethnic background reminding them that any such behaviour is unacceptable and will lead to immediate dismissal," Milian was quoted as saying in the report.

Three Indians based in the UAE were either fired or suspended from their jobs for "Islamophobic" posts on social media early this month.

On April 20, India's ambassador to the UAE Pavan Kapoor had warned Indian expatriates against such behaviour.

"India and UAE share the value of non-discrimination on any grounds. Discrimination is against our moral fabric and the Rule of law. Indian nationals in the UAE should always remember this," he said in a tweet.

Last month, Sharjah-based businessman Sohan Roy had to apologise for "unintentionally hurting religious sentiments" through his poem, which alluded to a Muslim religious group.

In March, chef Trilok Singh was fired from a restaurant in Dubai for an online threat against a student in Delhi over her views on the Citizenship Amendment Act.

Bengaluru, Jan 10: Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Friday launched 'Sapthapadi', a mass marriage program in Bengaluru.

The state authorities will provide a mangalsutra worth Rs 40,000 and Rs 5,000 to the groom. They will also give Rs 10,000 to the bride after marriage.

The state government has also informed that the department has shortlisted some temples where the mass marriages will be held.

Yediyurappa also confirmed that the government will help communities like Muslim and Christians also to organise mass marriage as per their respective rituals.

According to the state government guidelines, issued last year in November, both parents of the couple should attend the ceremony if the duo wants to avail benefits of this offer but those who want to marry without their parent's permission do not stand a chance here.

Also, those wanting a love marriage will not be able to reap the benefits of the scheme. The plan is to conduct about 1,000 marriages in 90-100 temples.

The couples wanting to tie the knot are expected to register themselves 30 days before the scheduled date in the temple. Following which a list will be prepared.
