Humiliated by workplace boyfriend, Infosys employee ends life

Bengaluru, Jul 1: A 24-year-old woman working for a reputed IT firm has committed suicide at her paying guest accommodation (PG) in Konappana Agrahara, South Bengaluru after fight with her male colleague. 

The deceased has been identified as Rakshitha T, who was working at Infosys. She was the second daughter of Timmaiah Shetty, a native of Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh. Rakshitha had completed her BSc and joined Infosys two years ago. 

Police said Rakshitha was in a relationship with her colleague Karthik Srinidhi. He used to harass and humiliate her which forced her to take the extreme step.

A preliminary investigation revealed that when Srinidhi started seeing other girls, Rakshitha confronted him.

An enraged Srinidhi started abusing and humiliating her and even told her to leave him alone and be dead. Depressed, Rakshitha disconnected the call after telling Srinidhi that she is going to end her life.

Srinidhi said that both were friends and spoke on the phone every day. On June 25, both spoke at around 10 pm.

However, around 11.20 pm, Rakshitha called him and told him that she is going to end her life and disconnected the call. 

Srinidhi rushed to Rakshitha’s PG and alerted the staff. They went to her room and found Rakshitha hanging from the ceiling. She was rushed to the St John’s Hospital but was declared brought dead.

Based on a complaint by Timmaiah Shetty, the Electronics City police booked Srinidhi charging him under abetment to suicide.

Mangaluru, Jan 24: The third annual nocturnal Mangaluru Kambala, also known as the Rama Lakshmana Kambala, will be held on the night of January 25 at Goldfinch City in Bangra Kuluru, Mangaluru Kambala Samithi president Brijesh Chowta announced on Friday.

The all-night Kambala will have six categories - Naegilu Kiriya, Hagga Kiriya, Naegilu Hiriya, Hagga Hiriya, Kane Halage and Adda Halage.

The event will be inaugurated at 0930 hrs on January 25 and another programme will be held at 1800 hrs.

Mangaluru  Mar 27: Thinking that he might have contracted the coronavirus infection, a 55-year-old man has committed suicide in Bantwal taluk of Dakshina Kannada district.

The deceased has been identified as Sadashiva Shetty, a resident of Abbettu under Meramajalu village. He was working in a petrol bunk.

It is learnt that Sadashiva suspected that he might have come in contact with coronavirus infected people while working in the petrol bunk.

He was scared that the same might get transferred to his family members through him. 

He was depressed for past few days. Today, he hanged himself from the ceiling fan of his house, sources said.

A case has been regarded at the Bantwal rural police station and investigations are on.

Kalaburagi, Mar 14: Delivering its judgment within a period of three and half months, a court here on Friday awarded death sentence to a man, who was a convict in the rape and murder case of a minor girl.

The Second Additional District and Sessions court in Kalaburagi sentenced Yallappa to death in the matter.

"The convict, had on December 2, 2019, taken the minor victim behind an Angwanwadi centre in Yakapur village. He raped the girl, murdered her and ran away," special public prosecutor LV Chutnalakar told media.
He said that the body of the girl was recovered around 10 pm on the same night.

"The investigation in the matter was taken up after a complaint was filed by the parents of the victim. The police conducted a speedy probe and filed a chargesheet, after which the conviction and sentence were pronounced," Chutnalakar said.
