Hype is good, says PM Modi at Vibrant Gujarat Summit

Gandhinagar, Jan 11: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday at Vibrant Gujarat Summit took on his detractors and said hype is good as it helps to expedite the process of decision making.vibrant guj modi

PM Modi said "hyping things help to create a momentum. It forces the government officials to quicken the decision making process, besides it helps to do away with red-tapism."

PM Modi's critics always ridicule him saying he builds hype around his policies for publicity but fails to deliver on them.

"... We are not only making commitments and announcements. We are also backing them up with concrete action," he said.

Modi, who assumed office as Prime Minister in May last year after BJP stormed to power with a huge mandate, said the government is working to provide a policy-driven governance.

Wooing global investors, PM Modi promised to make India the "easiest" destination to do business with a stable tax regime and a predictable, transparent and fair policy environment.

Pushing his pet theme of manufacturing to boost economic growth and create jobs, he said a single window clearance for projects is being set up at both central and state level.

Stating that the atmosphere of "despair and uncertainty" has gone away within a very short span of seven months, he said, "Since day one, my government is actively working to revive the economy. My government is committed to creating a policy environment that is predictable, transparent and fair."

"Ease of doing business in India is a prime concern for you and for us. I assure you that we are working very seriously on these issues. We want to make them not only easier than earlier; not only easier than the rest; but we want to make them the easiest," he said.

"We are trying to complete the circle of economic reforms speedily. We are also keen to see that our policies are predictable. We are clear that our tax regime should be stable. In the last few months, we have taken several decisions in this direction," he said.

Modi said that India is on the "path of transformation", while speaking at the Vibrant Gujarat Summit, with leaders from across the world, including top industrialist and US Secretary of State John Kerry, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and World Bank head Jim Yong Kim, in attendance.

Stating that the government has made commitments to its people for a great future for India in a very short time, he said, "we know that to do this, we need the enabling policy framework. We are working constantly to improve it further".

Assuring investors that the government will "hold your hands whenever needed," he said: "If you walk one step, we will walk two steps for you."

New Delhi, Jun 16: Jet fuel or ATF price on Tuesday was hiked by 16.3 per cent while petrol price was increased by 47 paise per litre and that of diesel by a record 93 paise on the back of firming international oil rates.

Aviation turbine fuel (ATF) price was hiked by ₹5,494.5 per kilolitre (kl), or 16.3 per cent, to ₹39,069.87 per kl in the national capital, according to a price notification by state-owned oil marketing companies.

This is the second straight increase in ATF price this month. Rates were hiked by a record 56.5 per cent (₹12,126.75 per kl) on June 1.

Simultaneously, petrol and diesel prices were hiked for the 10th day in a row.

Petrol price in Delhi was hiked to ₹76.73 per litre from ₹76.26, while diesel rates were increased to ₹75.19 a litre from ₹74.26, the price notification said.

In 10 hikes, petrol price has gone up by ₹5.47 per litre and diesel by Rs 5.8 a litre.

Rates have been increased across the country and vary from state to state depending on the incidence of local sales tax or VAT.

The hike in diesel rates is the highest daily increase since the state-owned fuel retailers started daily revision in rates in May 2017.

Hike for 10th consecutive day

Tuesday’s increase in petrol and diesel price marks the 10th straight day of rise in rates since oil companies on June 7 restarted revising prices in line with costs, after ending an 82-day hiatus.

The freeze in rates was imposed in mid-March soon after the government hiked excise duty on petrol and diesel to shore up additional finances.

Oil PSUs Indian Oil Corp (IOC), Bharat Petroleum Corp Ltd (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corp Ltd (HPCL) instead of passing on the excise duty hikes to customers adjusted them against the fall in the retail rates that was warranted because of fall in international oil prices.

The June 1 hike in jet fuel price had come after seven consecutive reductions in rates since February. ATF price in Delhi before the reduction cycle began in February was ₹64,323.76 per kilolitre, which got reduced to ₹21,448.62 last month.

Industry officials said the hike was necessitated because benchmark international rates have bounced back from a two-decade low.

While ATF prices are revised on 1st and 16th of every month, petrol and diesel prices are revised on a daily basis.

Oil companies used to revise ATF prices on the first of every month, but adopted fortnightly revisions on March 21 to pass on the benefit of falling international oil prices to airlines.

Bhopal, Jul 7: Anil Mishra, personal assistant to BJP Rajya Sabha MP Jyotiraditya Scindia, has tested positive.

He has been accompanying Scindia throughout his tours post-corona infection.

His contact trail is longer than that of Scindia. He has been in touch with Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

Mishra was present during Scindia's meetings with the MLAs and the swearing in ceremony of the MP ministry on July 2.

BJP sources say there is concern over the possible list of people who will be put in isolation to check the spread of the virus.
