Mysuru, Jan 6: Mysuru-Kodagu MP Pratap Simha has claimed that Karnataka BJP president and former chief minister BS Yeddyurappa had asked him to start preparing for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

The statement assumes significance amidst conflicting reports of the BJP contemplating denying Pratap Simha the ticket to contest the upcoming polls in view of his poor performance.

Speaking to media persons on Saturday the parliamentarian said: “One section of the media is misleading the people about my candidature. They want me to return to journalism. But, I can tell you that I am contesting the Lok Sabha elections on a BJP ticket, and am confident of coasting to an easy win,” said Simha.

Pointing out that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, no less, had expressed appreciation for his work in the constituency, Simha added, “When this is the case, baseless stories are only creating confusion among voters. I am in politics to stay, and will continue to fight. I will continue to champion the causes of the people. I am the kind of person who, if a stone is hurled at me, I will use it to construct a building.”

On the other hand, reacting to Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president Dinesh Gundurao treating the seizure of Rs 26.5 lakh in cash from the office of social welfare minister and Congress leader Puttaranga Shetty – Dinesh dubbed the amount ‘peanuts’ – Simha had a tongue-in-cheek reply at the ready. “When they can get crores from projects like the Steel Bridge in Bengaluru, this amount will amount to ‘peanuts’. I must congratulate Dinesh for admitting what is the bitter truth,” Simha said.

Recalling an incident wherein former social welfare minister H Anjaneya’s wife was allegedly caught on camera accepting what was purported to be a bribe, Simha said, “But the Congress did not take any action against him. This shows the culture of corruption prevailing in the Congress.”

Highlighting the achievements of BJP-led NDA government at the Centre, Simha said that the Ujwala Yojana had, by providing LPG to households, decreased dependence on kerosene and other cooking fuel. He also pointed to the ‘Ayushman Bharat’ scheme as one of the central government’s flagship schemes.

Dear Simha, you are a hate monger and always give unrealistic, unconstutional and inflamatory statements.  You never work on public welfare but concentrate on dividing the society for the benefit of your party and yourself.   I dont think people will vote yu next time.  they are fed up with your illogic way.   You better take retirement and start pakoda shop thereby follwing footstep of your master.   I am sure that your master will appreciste this.

Yadgir, July 2: A fresh video of the health staff dragging the body of a Covid-19 victim and dumping it into a pit disgracefully has gone viral on social media.

The incident occurred in Yadgir district of Karnataka on Tuesday, just days after shocking visuals of bodies of Covid-19 victims being handled disrespectfully in Ballari district went viral.

In the fresh video, two persons with PPE suits can be seen dragging, hurling and dumping the dead body of a senior citizen who died of covid-19. The duo dragged the body using a wooden log inserted to both hands of a plastic body bag for nearly 300 meters.

After pulling till the pit, the body was heartlessly dumped including a wooden log. Several villagers were also seen in the video.

The victim was settled in Siravara in Raichur district, although he originally hailed from Yadgir. On Sunday he was busy overseeing his daughter' wedding that was first postponed due to lockdown.

According to a relative of the deceased, on Monday he complained of breathing problems following which an ambulance was called to carry him to Raichur Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS).

Raichur Deputy Commissioner (DC), R Venkatesh said he was brought dead to the hospital as he succumbed en-route. The family members were quarantined and the body was packed as per the protocols and sent to Yadgir as his family members informed that the victim is from the neighbouring district. "In Yadgir district he was swabbed and his test results came positive," DC informed.

As soon as residents of Honagera village learned about the arrival of the body, the family members were harassed asking them to not to bury the body in any of the fields in the village.

Sridevi, a relative of the deceased said "the locals assembled near our house and threatened consequences if the body was brought here. Fearing backlash, we asked the district authorities to perform the last rites in the farmland owned by the victim. But it is now saddening to see the video where the body was inhumanely dragged and dumped."

Meanwhile Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa on Wednesday (July 1, 2020) said that six staff members have been suspended in connection with the inhumane funeral of a man who died of COVID-19 in Balari district.

Mangaluru, Jul 13: Air India Express flight brought around 170 passengers from Bahrain to Mangaluru under Vande Bharat Mission yesterday.

This is the first VBM flight from Bahrain to Mangaluru. The flight took off from Bahrain at 10 am on Sunday and landed at Mangaluru International airport at 4.45 pm.

Even though thousands of Indian expatriates from other gulf countries were brought to Mangaluru in past few weeks, no flight was arranged from Bahrain so far. Hence, several Mangalureans including senior citizens, women and patients were stranded in Bahrain for months together.

Local entrepreneur and president of Indian Overseas Congress (IOC) Mohammed Mansoor, who saw the plight of the hapless Indian expatriates in Bahrain had discussions with the Indian embassy in Bahrain and convinced it to arrange a special Air India Express flight under the Vande Bharat Mission.

IOC, along with the cooperation of ‘KHK Heroes’ had arranged meal kits for passengers during their flight to Mangaluru. IOC had also contacted all the Mangaluru-based NRIs who wanted to fly back to India and made a list with the help of Indian embassy to avoid any untoward incidents.

IOC had also given details of hotels to be quarantined in Mangaluru and Udupi, names of nodal officers to be contacted and emergency telephone numbers. The passengers were given a warm farewell by the office bearers of IOC from Bahrain international airport.

The effort taken by Mohammed Mansoor, president of IOC is lauded by all. All the passengers who travelled by the flight have thanked IOC and its office bearers whole heartedly.
