I am confident of rebel MLAs withdrawing their resignation letters: D K Shivakumar

Bengaluru, Jul 11: Karnataka Minister and senior Congress leader D K Shivakumar today expressed confidence that the 16 disgruntled Legislators, who had submitted letters to quit their MLA seats, of withdrawing their resignation letter.

Talking to newsmen after a meeting of top leaders belonging to coalition partners Congress and JD(S), Shivakumar, who is acting as trouble shooter, is trying to pacify the disgruntled MLAs and he was confident of resigned MLAs changing their stand.

When his attention was drawn to Supreme Court direction to the MLAs who had applied for speedy decision by Legislative Assembly Speaker Ramesh Kumar, he said that “the Apex court has given time till today evening for them to meet the Speaker. In politics change can take place any moment and I am confident of the changing their mind and withdrawing their letters when they meet the Speaker.

The authorities have clamped Prohibitory orders in the radius of two Km radius of Vidhana Soudha, the State Secretariat where the Speaker Chamber is also situated.

Meanwhile, Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy is in progress to take stock of the political situation prevailing and ways to safeguard the Coalition government in view of Winter Session scheduled to begin from tomorrow and decisions on important bills including Finance Bill and Budget for 2019-20 has to be passed.

Airport bomb: Accused Aditya Rao to be handed over to Mangaluru police

Bengaluru, Jan 22: The Bengaluru Police on Wednesday said that the procedure is being followed to hand-over to the Mangaluru Police a suspect who surrendered before it two days after planting an improvised explosive device (IED) at the Mangaluru International Airport.

"He [the suspect] surrendered before police claiming to be responsible for the Mangaluru airport incident. He is being medically examined and we are preparing procedure to hand him over to the Mangaluru team which is already on their way," Bengaluru Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Chetan Singh Rathore told the media persons.

Aditya Rao surrendered before Bengaluru Police today, days after a bag of IED was recovered from Mangaluru airport. He hails from Udupi and has engineering and MBA degrees.

An investigation team of Mangaluru police is flying to Bengaluru to question him. "Mangaluru city police investigation team is flying to Bengaluru shortly to investigate the developments in connection with MIA case..the team will question the suspect and will initiate further necessary legal action," Commissioner of Police, Mangaluru City, tweeted.

According to the police, the IED was recovered from a bag at Mangaluru airport on January 20. It was later defused in an open field by the personnel of the bomb disposal squad.

Eshapriya Teertha Swami to ascend ‘Paryaya Peeta’ on Jan 18

Udupi, Jan 7: Eshapriya Teertha Swamiji, who was appointed as the junior Swamiji of Admar Math, would be ascending the 'Paryaya Peeta' for the first time on January 18, Vishwapriya Theertha Swamiji of Admar Math said.

Speaking to the media at Admar Moola Math at Admar near Padubidri on Monday night Vishwapriya Teertha Swamiji of Admar Math said, 'I had performed my first Paryaya in 1988-90 with the help of Shri Vishwapriya Teertharu.

'The second Paryaya was performed independently by the order of Shri Vibudhesha Teertharu in 2004-06.

Offer prayers at home if some mosques can't follow covid guidelines: Mangaluru Qadhi

Mangaluru, Jun 2: Even as the mosques in Karnataka recieved green signal from state government to reopen for congregational prayers from June 8, a senior Islamic scholar in coastal Karnataka has encouraged Muslims to prefer to offer prayers at homes during covid times.

Twaqa Ahmed Al-Azhari, the Qadhi of Mangaluru, has welcomed the state government's decision to allow Muslims to offer congregational prayers including Jum'a prayers with certain precautions and conditions.

"Government has upheld our religions sentiments. All the mosques where congregational prayers will be held from June 8 should strictly follow all the guidelines issued by the government," he said.

He also suggested that if any mosque is not in a position to follow all the guidelines issued by the government then it should refrain from holding congregational prayers. "Muslims can continue offer Fard and Jumá prayers at homes as the cornavirus pandemic is still spreading in the region and across the world," he said.
