I am indebted to Salman for whatever I am today: Himesh

May 9, 2014

Himesh_salmanMumbai, May 9: Musician-actor Himesh Reshammiya, who is gearing up for the release of his musical-thriller 'The Xpose', says he will always be indebted to mentor Salman Khan for his continuous love and support.

Salman gave Himesh his first big break in Bollywood and he composed music for his movie 'Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya'. Later, Salman and Himesh gave many hit film albums together like 'Yeh Hai Jalwa', 'Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge' among others. He tasted first major success as a music director with 2003 Salman-starrer 'Tere Naam'.

"He is a legend he is the best brother I can have. I am indebted to him for whatever I am today and the whole Khan family for giving me a break. He is a genius and he knows his job very well," Himesh said in an interview here. "He surprises every year with something new.. That is why he is a superstar and will continue to survive for another 50 years. He has the knack to connect with the audience. He is the most lovable star," he said.

Apparently, in between Himesh had distanced himself from Salman and began presenting himself as an actor. The trouble between Salman and Himesh had become apparent when the former had appeared in a TV reality show and had taken a jibe at Himesh.

But they have returned to be friends and the rumoured war is over. In 2011, Himesh and Salman buried the hatchet when Himesh gave music for his film 'Bodyguard'.

Himesh will also compose music for Salman's other two upcoming films Sooraj Barjatya's 'Prem Ratan Dhan Payo' and Sajid Nadiadwala's 'Kick'.

On acting front, Himesh seems excited about his upcoming film 'The Xpose'.

"It is a murder mystery set in the film industry of 60s. In 60s, there was a conservative atmosphere in industry but two leading ladies --Zeenat Aman and Praveen Babi--came forward in a bold avatar and it changed the whole scenario," Himesh said.

Mumbai, Jun 8: Veteran writer-lyricist Javed Akhtar has won the 2020 Richard Dawkins Award for critical thinking, holding religious dogma up to scrutiny, advancing human progress and humanist values.

Akhtar has become the first Indian to be given the honour, which recognises a distinguished individual from the field of science, scholarship, education, or entertainment, who publicly proclaims the values of secularism and rationalism and upholding scientific truth.

Akhtar's wife, veteran actor Shabana Azmi said the award's relevance becomes more prominent especially in the current times when secularism is under attack.

"I am thrilled. I know what a hero Richard Dawkins has been for Javed. The award gains all the more significant because in today’s time when secularism is being attacked by religious fundamentalists of all hues, this award comes as a validation of Javed’s long service to rational thinking," Azmi told PTI.

The award is named after world-renowned English evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins. Actor-comedian Ricky Gervais received the honour last year.

Bollywood celebrities Anil Kapoor and Dia Mirza took to Twitter to congratulate the 75-year-old writer for the recognition.
