I don't need extra rounds to finish off Samet Hyuseinov: Vijender Singh

Manchester, Dec 18: Indian boxing star Vijender Singh, who competes in his first six rounds contest this Saturday night at the Manchester Arena, says he won't need the extra rounds to finish off experienced Hungarian Samet Hyuseinov in his third professional bout.

Vijender SinghThe fast rising middleweight star from Bhiwani, in Haryana, has steamed through his first two professional opponents since turning pro after a highly decorated amateur career culminating in bronze at the 2008 Olympics Games.

Dusting off Sonny Whiting in three rounds in October and then Dean Gillen inside one in November and with a reluctance of domestic fighters wanting to face Singh, an international

opposition has been selected for Vijender Singh's last fight of the year with Bulgaria's Hyuseinov taking up the challenge.

Vijender doesn't see it going beyond three rounds against Hyuseinov.

"I feel in tremendous shape and ready to punch holes in Hyuseinov on Saturday night," Said Vijender.

"It's another progression in my boxing career to move up to six rounds, but I really don't feel I'll need them against Hyuseinov.

"While it's good to get rounds and experience under my belt I want excitement and knockouts, the rounds will come as we move up into title fights, right now I want to take opponents out as quickly as I can, three rounds, maybe, against Hyuseinov.

"He won't be in for the distance against me that's for sure, once I start lining him up with the jabs and get my distance and then start dropping big hard rights in, he won't be lasting too long."

However Hyuseinov says he'll teach Vijender a painful lesson for dismissing him as an easy job and disrespecting him.

"For all his insults I will make him pay," Said Hyuseinov.

"He is just a two-fight kid, two fights and he's talking like he's a world champion. This man has been disrespectful to me and questioned my fighting ability by saying that he will knockout me out before six rounds, what a joke, for that I will make sure that I hurt him.

"Nobody will talk to me as if I am a journeyman and I will not let a raw novice boxer, who in my eyes is just a play actor boxer and should stick to acting in films, say he will knock me out.

"Watch on Saturday, he says he doesn't need six rounds to knock me out, but I will hit him for six."

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has confirmed interim changes to its playing regulations, which include the ban on the use of saliva to shine the ball and allowing home umpires in international series as per a release issued by the international body.

The ICC Chief Executives' Committee (CEC) ratified recommendations from the Anil Kumble-led Cricket Committee, aimed at mitigating the risks posed by the COVID-19 virus and protect the safety of players and match officials when cricket resumes.

COVID-19 Replacements

Teams will be allowed to replace players displaying symptoms of COVID-19 during a Test match. In line with concussion replacements, the Match Referee will approve the nearest like-for-like replacement.

However, the regulation for COVID-19 replacements will not be applicable in ODIs and T20Is.

Ban on Saliva on Ball

Players will not be permitted to use saliva to shine the ball. If a player does apply saliva to the ball, the umpires will manage the situation with some leniency during an initial period of adjustment for the players, but subsequent instances will result in the team receiving a warning.

Whenever saliva is applied to the ball, the umpires will be instructed to clean the ball before play recommences.

Vitoria, Jul 20: Lionel Messi won a record seventh top scoring title in the Spanish league after netting twice in Barcelona's 5-0 rout of Alav s in the final round.

Messi ended with 25 goals, four more than Karim Benzema, who did not score in Real Madrid's 2-2 draw at Legan s.

Messi is the first player to finish as the league's top scorer in seven different seasons. He reached the milestone despite missing games because of an injury early in the season. The Argentine's 25 goals came in 33 matches.

Messi was tied with Telmo Zarra with six scoring titles. He has also now equaled Hugo Sanchez's feat of four straight top-scorer trophies.

"Individual achievements are always secondary," Messi said on Sunday.

"I wished it could have come along with the league title."

This is also the third successive season that Messi finished with the most assists 21 in the league.

Ansu Fati, Luis Su rez and Nelson Semedo also scored Sunday for Barcelona, which had already secured second place behind Madrid.

Fati opened the scoring in the 24th minute, Messi added to the lead 10 minutes later and Su rez closed the first-half scoring in the 44th. Semedo got on the board in the 57th and Messi in the 75th to help Barcelona rebound from a 2-1 home loss to Osasuna.

"Today things were different," Messi said.

"The team showed better attitude and commitment. It was an important step forward for us ahead of what's left in the season."

Barcelona now turns its focus to its Aug. 8 home game against Napoli in the round of 16 of the Champions League. The first leg, played before the break, ended 1-1.

Barcelona coach Quique Seti n finished under pressure after the team relinquished a two-point lead over Madrid when the league resumed following the pandemic break. It was four points back before Madrid's match at Legan s.

Barcelona defender Cl ment Lenglet had to be substituted early in the second half because of an apparent muscle injury.

Alav s, sitting in 15th, had already done enough to stay up.

BAR A "B" TEAM

American winger Konrad de la Fuente scored twice as Barcelona's "B" team beat Valladolid B to keep alive its hopes of reaching the second division next season. The victory put Barcelona in the second round of the promotion playoffs.

The 19-year-old De la Fuente, who recently had his contract with Barcelona extended through the 2021-22 season, scored in each half.

Karachi, May 8: A cricket museum based in India has bought a bat auctioned by Pakistan Test captain Azhar Ali to raise funds for the needy during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Azhar had put two of his precious belongings -- the bat he used to score 302 runs against the West Indies in a Test in 2016 and the jersey he wore during the 2017 Champions Trophy final win over India -- on an online auction to raise funds for the people affected by the deadly disease.

Both the bat and jersey were signed by members of the Pakistan team.

Azhar announced on social media that he had kept a base price of one million each for the bat and jersey and they had sold for 2.2 million.

He confirmed that Blades of Glory Cricket Museum based in Pune bought the bat by making a winning offer of Rs. 1 million for the bat.

Azhar said that the auction of the shirt also generated a lot of interest and Kash Villani, a Pakistani based in California, came up with the highest bid of Rs. 1.1 million for the shirt before the conclusion of the auction.

Another Pakistani based in New Jersey, Jamal Khan also donated Rs. 100,000 for the cause.

"I put two of my closest belongings on auction with base price of 1 million PKR each to support people suffering due to ongoing crisis. Auction starts now and will close on 11:59 PM 05 May, 2020," Azhar had tweeted.

Ali became the first international player to score a test triple century in Day/Night Test when he scored an unbeaten 302 against the West Indies team in UAE in 2016.

"The shirt is from 2017 Champions Trophy which we won, it has the signature of all the players which were present in the squad," Ali said in a video posted on Twitter.

"Both these things are close to my heart but if it can be used in the difficult times for the benefit of the people I will more than happy."
