Mandya, Aug 14: Sri Nirmalanandanath Swami, the pontiff of Sri Adichunchungiri mutt, has sent out a clear message to the political parties, saying that he did not nurse any political ambitions unlike Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adithyanath.

(Sri Nirmalanandanath Swami greets BJP National President Amit Shah at Adichunchungiri mutt in Mndya District on Sunday)

“This mutt is known for producing political leaders, including former PM H D Deve Gowda, chief ministers and ministers. We will not, at any cost, take Yogi Adityanath's path,” the pontiff, who presided over a function to release the biography on Sri Balagangadharnath Swami said. The biography was released by BJP national president Amit Shah.

With the BJP leadership setting a precedent by making pontiff Yogi Adityanath chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, and Shah choosing to visit Sri Adichunchangiri mutt, speculation was rife that the party is looking to try the same experiment in Karnataka, though the leadership has officially de clared B S Yeddyurappa its chief ministerial candidate.

Nirmalanandanath Swami tried to downplay Shah's visit to the mutt. "I had planned to invite Shah to the mutt and release the biography of Sri Balagangadharnath some two years ago. I decided to invite Shah since I wanted a politician who supports and respects spiritual institutions to release the book on my guru. To relate his visit to politics now is totally uncalled for," he said.

The seer said there is a vast difference between Sri Adichunchangiri mutt and the Gorakhnath Peeth of Yogi Adityanath, of which he is heir."Our mutt and Gorakhnath Peeth have a common history and follow the same philosophy but the only difference is they get involved in politics and nurse political ambitions, and we don't," he added.

The swami said the Gorakhnath temple and Balagangadharnath Swami's temple also practices and professes the Nath traditions. The founder of the BGS (Balagangadharnath Swami) temple, Balagangadharnath Swami's mentor Bhairavaikya Balagangadharnath and Yogi Adityanath's mentor Avaidyanath were close to each other. "Whenever we go to North India, we visit the Gorakhpur temple, and whenever Yogi Adityanath visits Karnataka, he comes to our temple. But we don't have anything to do with politics," he said.

Amit Shah took not more than 10 minutes to interact with select students from Balagangadharnath Swami Medical College. Shah, who was in a hurry after his public function at Sri Adichunchangiri mutt, told the students they are lucky to be studying in such an institution and asked them to make the best use of it."He did not take any questions from the students, who had prepared and were waiting since morning to interact with him. It was all over in 10 minutes," mutt sources said.

Managluru, May 15: Kannadigas in Saudi Arabia deserve more attention from the government amidst covid-19 crisis as they remit huge amount of money to their home state and ultimately get no benefit, opined U T Khader, Mangaluru MLA.

The former minister held a video conference with stranded Kannadigas in Saudi Arabia on May 15 and assured to do his best to convince the Centre to operate more repatriation flights from Saudi Arabia to Karnataka.

He also said that he would urge the chief minister of Karnataka to announce a separate rehabilitation package for Indian expatriates who have lost their jobs in Gulf countries amidst covid-19 lockdown.

Mr Khader also interacted with two medical emergency patients and promised them to inform the Indian embassy in Riyadh to facilitate their homeward journey via Dammam-Bengaluru flight in the second phase of Vande Bharat Mission.

Mr Khader expressed regret over the inept handling of passengers from Dubai at Mangaluru International Airport on May 12 and said that next batch of passengers would not face such problems on arrival.

Bhopal, Mar 11: After meeting with 19 party MLAs who have tendered their resignations, Congress leader Sajjan Singh Verma on Wednesday said they are neither willing to support Jyotiraditya Scindia nor in favour of joining BJP as they were "misled and taken to Bengaluru" in Karnataka.

"Nobody is ready to go with Scindia ji. They said they were misled and taken to Bengaluru, most of them said they are not ready to join BJP," Verma told media persons on being asked about the 19 MLAs.

"I just came from Bengaluru and now I am going to Jaipur. Besides 5-6 ministers and one MLA, we all are going to Jaipur. They (MLAs) have said they have the blood of Congress and they will remain in the party.
Since Scindia was a senior party leader, all our MLAs followed his order as a courtesy," he said.

The Congress leader further claimed that BJP is using both "muscle and money power" to influence Congress MLAs.

He also claimed that he is strongly in contact with 7-8 BJP MLAs.

On Tuesday, Congress sent two of its leaders -- Verma and Govind Singh -- to Bengaluru in order to pacify some of the rebel MLAs who are lodged in a hotel there and who claimed to have resigned from the state Legislative Assembly.

Most of the rebel MLAs are perceived close to Scindia and are apparently unhappy at Scindia being "ignored" in the party. The grand old party has been witnessing an internal turf war in Madhya Pradesh since the party formed the government in the state in 2018.

Scindia is likely to join BJP later today.

Bengaluru, Mar 9: The BJP government in Karnataka on Monday scrapped the Shaadi Bhagya Scheme that was launched by Congress government in the state in 2013.

Under the scheme, Rs 50,000 was given to Muslim brides for marriage expenses after they submitted their Aadhar and BPL cards.

While the previous coalition government had allocated Rs 60 crore budget for the scheme, the BJP government decided to discontinue the scheme. Congress called the move by the state government as "anti-minority".

"They have launched a scheme for the majority community. I welcome that. But why are you discontinuing one scheme? It is a small scheme where marginalized people get a little help from the government," Congress MLA Rizwan Arshad told reporters.

"He (Karnataka Chief Minister) has wilfully reduced the money allotted to all the schemes," he added.

BJP MLA Basavana Gowda Patil Yantal welcomed the decision of the Karnataka Government to scrap the scheme.

"The minority does not need appeasement because equal citizenship needs to apply to all in this country. I wholeheartedly welcome this move by the Karnataka Government," Yantal told reporters.

"Should we not give the majority people anything in India? India not giving anything to the majority, is that secular? We have already given them Pakistan," he said.

The MLAs from the minority community in the state have demanded a meeting with the Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa.
