I quit BJP; Cong promised me ticket: Former BJP MLA Raju Kage

Bengaluru, Nov 12: Former MLA Raju Kage on Monday informed that he has quit BJP party and will be joining Congress on November 13.

Speaking to newsmen, after meeting Leader of Opposition Siddaramaiah Raju, Kage said, “I have worked very hard for BJP but the party hasn’t given me due respect. I have already submitted my resignation to the concerned officials. I will never return to BJP.”

“I have already met Congress leaders Siddramaiah and DK Shivakumar to discuss the matter. They have also promised my party ticket for the coming bypolls.” he said.

Meanwhile Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa reacting on Raju’s resignation said, “It doesn’t matter who leaves or joins that party but BJP is sure to win the bypolls.” These bypolls were necessitated after the resignation and subsequent disqualification of 17 MLAs comprising 14 from Congress and three from the JD(S) by the then speaker K R Ramesh Kumar.

Their disqualification had brought down the coalition government of Congress and the JD(S) and installed the BJP government in Karnataka.

The election dates for Rajarajeshwari Nagar and Maski constituencies were not announced as the matter is pending in court.

Karnataka ministers to take 30 per cent pay cut for a year

Bengaluru, Apr 9: Ministers and members of Legislature in Karnataka will take a 30 per cent cut each in their salaries and allowances to fund the fight against coronavirus in the state, for a year.

An ordinance to reduce the salaries of ministers and legislators by 30 per cent for one year to meet the exigencies arising out of COVID-19 pandemic was approved by the state cabinet headed by chief minister B S Yediyurappa on Thursday.

"... we have cut by 30 per cent salaries and allowances of all ministers, MLAs, MLCs, also speaker, deputy speaker, chief whip every one for one year from April 1, amounting to Rs 15.36 crore," Law and Parliamentary Affairs minister J C Madhuswamy said.

Speaking to reporters after the cabinet meeting, he said, "we have the consent from all the political parties for this, so we have passed the ordinance today."

The Union Cabinet on Monday had approved a 30 per cent cut in salaries of all Members of Parliament and a two-year suspension of the MP Local Area Development (MPLAD) scheme.

Nearly 30 injured as Mangaluru-Bengaluru bus falls into trench

Puttur, Jan 4: As many as 27 passengers travelling in a private bus escaped with minor injuries after it toppled and fell into a roadside trench at Amai near Perne on Mangaluru-Bengaluru national highway last night, police said on Saturday.

Police said that the driver of the Bengaluru-bond bus lost control over the vehicle while traversing through the narrow bridge at Amai.

The bus was damaged in the mishap.

Fisheries fully shut down in Mangaluru amid COVID-19 scare

Mangaluru, Mar 27: Amid fear of coronavirus spread, the District Collector on Friday ordered the closure of the city’s major fishing area Dhakke.

''The fish caught by us on Wednesday were dumped, without being sold'', fishermen said. Meanwhile, a few them obtained police permission and took the fish to the nearby fish mill.

All the boats which had gone for fishing are back to the dock and the port is deserted. Also, the fishermen who went fishing have been advised to return.
