I-T sleuths raid rooms of HDK, Congress leaders

Hubballi, May 15: A flying squad of income tax department sleuths raided a room at the Cotton County Club on Gokul Road here late on Monday night and allegedly seized 11 portraits of late minister CS Shivalli, 50 golden bowls, seven voter lists of Kundgol assembly constituency and some campaign material. Following the raid, Gokul Road police booked one local resident, Chandrashekhar Gokavi, under sections of the Representation of People Act, 1951 and 1988.

It is alleged that the items seized from the room at the star hotel were meant to influence voters in the Kundgol assembly bypoll.

I-T officials said all the rooms of the hotel were searched, but the materials were found in only one room. Taxmen also conducted raids on rooms of another star hotel here where, they said, Karnataka chief minister HD Kumaraswamy was staying. HDK was campaigning for the Congress candidate from the Kundgol assembly seat when the raids were conducted. Sources said nothing noteworthy was found. I-T sleuths extended their searches to rooms where coalition ministers stayed but found only a few 'pieces of paper'.

Udupi district borders to be sealed from July 15 for 14 days

Udupi, July 14: Due to rising COVID-19 cases in this district, Deputy Commissioner G Jagadeesh on Tuesday, announced that the border will be sealed down from July 15.

Speaking to newsmen here on Tuesday, he said “Inter-district travelers will not be allowed to enter Udupi for 14 days from 8 pm on Wednesday, however, we won’t be imposing complete lockdown in the district.”

The decision was taken in the meeting held in his chamber in which Legislators Haladi Srinivas Shetty (Kundapur), Sunil Kumar (Karkala), Rghupathi Bhat (Udupi), Sukumar Shetty (Byndoor), among others were present.

Indian Muslim body issues fatwa to boycott Chinese goods

Bareilly, Jun 22: The All India Tanzeem Ulama-e-Islam, a religious and social organisation headed by five senior clerics, has issued a fatwa to boycott Chinese products in the country.

The clerics said the community members should stand with the army and government in this hour.

Expressing concern over India-China face-off, National general secretary of All India Tanzeem Ulama-e-Islam, Maulana Shahbuddin Rizvi expressed concern over the India-China face-off and said, "A fatwa has been passed for boycotting Chinese products on a query posted by a Bareilly-based resident. The clerics in the fatwa have condemned the conspiracy of China to encroach upon Indian land and the killing of our brave soldiers."

The panel of five clerics include national president of All India Tanzeem Ulama-e-Islam Mufti Ashfaq Hussain Qadri, Mufti Iqbal Ahmad Misbahi, Mufti Tauqir Ahmad Qadri, Mufti Hashim Raza Khan and Qari Saghir Ahmad Rizvi.

COVID-19: Health officials take help from police to admit pilgrim to hospital

Hassan, Mar 14: Karnataka Health Department officials took help of the Police to get a man, who returned from pilgrimage to Mecca (Saudi Arabia), admitted to hospital as he refused to undergo clinical tests for suspected Coronavirus, official sources said on Saturday.

According to the sources, a family from Arkalgud taluk, who was on a pilgrimage to Mecca and Madina, returned on March 5 and the woman from the family developed fever and symptoms of flu.

On Friday evening, in view of the Coronavirus scare, a team of Health Department officials visited their house and directed them to get admitted to a hospital in Hassan for treatment.
