I-T sleuths raid rooms of HDK, Congress leaders

Hubballi, May 15: A flying squad of income tax department sleuths raided a room at the Cotton County Club on Gokul Road here late on Monday night and allegedly seized 11 portraits of late minister CS Shivalli, 50 golden bowls, seven voter lists of Kundgol assembly constituency and some campaign material. Following the raid, Gokul Road police booked one local resident, Chandrashekhar Gokavi, under sections of the Representation of People Act, 1951 and 1988.

It is alleged that the items seized from the room at the star hotel were meant to influence voters in the Kundgol assembly bypoll.

I-T officials said all the rooms of the hotel were searched, but the materials were found in only one room. Taxmen also conducted raids on rooms of another star hotel here where, they said, Karnataka chief minister HD Kumaraswamy was staying. HDK was campaigning for the Congress candidate from the Kundgol assembly seat when the raids were conducted. Sources said nothing noteworthy was found. I-T sleuths extended their searches to rooms where coalition ministers stayed but found only a few 'pieces of paper'.

Mangaluru, May 15: Mohammed Kana, son of late Ismail Kana and grandson of late Dr M S Bapanad Mulki passed away in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia due to heart attack on Thursday. He was 57.

Hailing from Mangaluru, Mohammed Kana was working in Saudi Arabia for past 30 years. He is survived by his wife, son and a daughter.

He was involved in various social and welfare activities in India and Saudi Arabia. His tragic demise has left huge vacuum in his family and community at large.

Udupi, May 31: As many as 10 people have been tested positive for coronavirus in Udupi district today. 

The district has registered a total of 187 positive cases so far. Majority of the positive cases in Udupi district have inter-state travel history to Maharashtra.

Meanwhile, 14 people including three children who recovered from COVID -19 discharged from Government Hospital in Kundapura, in Udupi district.

Kundapura AC Raju, DHO Dr Sudhirchandra Sooda, taluk medical officer Dr Nagabhushan Udupa handed over a rose to all the discharged. With this, a total of 64 persons have been recovered and discharged in the district.

Gadag, Feb 20: A 33-year-old Muslim man is all set to become a seer at Muruga Rajendra Mutt in Gadag.

Ordained by Sri Murugarajendra Koraneswara Swami of the mutt, Dewan Sharief Mullah claims he was taking the step not under any duress but after being "guided by the almighty".

"Nobody asked me to do it. The almighty came in my mind and guided me.... They have put the sacred thread and given me the responsibility. They have given me the 'Ishta-linga' and this honour. I have done the 'Ishta-linga dharan'. I will walk on the path of dharma. Love and sacrifice is the message given to me. That is what I want to propagate," he said.

Sri Murugarajendra Koraneswara Swami said, "It does not matter what caste you belong to. If God appears to you for a path of goodwill and sacrifice, you will do it regardless of the manmade restrictions of birth and caste."
