I was humiliated by women members of Gowda family, claims JD(S) MLA

Bengaluru, Jul 8: KR Pet rebel JD(S) MLA KC Narayana Gowda on Sunday held women members of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda’s family responsible for his decision to resign his assembly membership.

"I was repeatedly humiliated by women members of Gowda’s family. They interfered in my constituency work and supported my opponents. Both Gowda and his son chief minister HD Kumaraswamy did nothing to help me despite my repeated requests," Nayarana Gowda told reporters.

He claimed he was made to stand in a corner in Gowda’s house when he went there while his opponents from his constituency were made to sit at the dining table with them.

Gowda, a second-time MLA, and nine other rebel MLAs have been camping in a Mumbai hotel since Saturday evening. He refuted charges that he was joining the BJP for monetary considerations. "I decided to resign owing to ill-treatment meted out to me in JD(S) and nothing else," he said.

Narayana Gowda also said Kumaraswamy doesn’t have a free hand and he’s under pressure from his family members as well as state Congress leaders.

Another Congress rebel MLA BC Patil also trained his guns on both Congress and JD(S) leadership for ignoring his claim for a ministerial berth and also not taking up any developmental work in North Karnataka. "This government is there for only two or three districts. Neither do MLAs get respect nor are their constituencies being taken care of by this government. The earlier this government goes, the better for the state," Patil said, adding that there’s no question of returning to the Congress.

JD(S) state president AH Vishwanath also blamed the Gowda family for not giving him a free hand. "I was a JD(S) state unit president only in name,” he said.
