Bengaluru, Jan 7: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday sought to know from his Karnataka counterpart Siddaramaiah if the latter considered himself a Hindu.

If so, then why does Siddaramaiah promote beef-eating?; the UP CM questioned.

Adityanath was addressing a well-attended BJP Nava Karnataka Nirmana Parivartana rally at Vijayanagar, Bengaluru on Sunday.

Adityanath said, "Hinduism is a way of life. It holds high values in esteem. It doesn't allow eating beef. If you (Siddaramaiah) consider yourself a Hindu, then why do you promote eating beef?"

Siddaramaiah at a recent political convention had said, "I am also Hindu and I have Rama in my name. BJP people should refrain from calling me anti-Hindu."

Adityanath said that when the BJP was ruling the state it had proposed to bring in a legislation for complete ban on cow slaughter. But the Congress had opposed the move.

Adiyanath said Siddaramaiah has 'suddenly and 'ahead of the election' realised that he is Hindu .

"The strength of Hindus makes people like Siddaramaiah realise that he is a Hindu. Even (AICC Chief) Rahul Gandhi starts visiting temples," Adityanath quipped.

He accused the ruling Congress in the state of dividing people along religious lines.

Adiyanath had lunch at Adichunchanagiri mutt in Vijayanagar along with its seer Nirmalanandanatha Swami before leaving for Lucknow.

Adichunchanagiri Mutt is said to have close links with the Gorakhnath Mutt in Gorakhpur, where Adityanath was the head priest. Both mutts follow the Nath Pantha, a sub-sect of Shaivism.

Hubli, Mar 9: A Hubli court on Monday rejected the bail application of three Kashmiri students, who were booked for sedition, after their video allegedly raising pro-Pakistan slogans went viral.

The plea was filed under Section 439 of CrPC.

This comes after the Hubli Bar Association earlier withdrew its resolution against representing the three Kashmiri students and said that advocates who wish to appear for them can approach Dharwad Principal District Court to file bail plea.

The three students are Basit Ashik Sophi (19), Talib Majid (19) and Amir Mohiuddin (23). They were booked under sedition charges for raising pro-Pakistan slogan in a video shared on social media.

They were earlier transferred to Belgaum Hindalga jail from Hubli sub-jail and the case, registered in Gokul Road police station, was also transferred to the rural police station because the video was recorded in the college hostel room, which is in its jurisdiction.

"We have opened our borders to people from neighbouring states who require medical facilities in Kerala. Twenty-nine people from Bairakuppa in Karnataka have used medical facilities in Wayanad and 44 from Tamil Nadu," Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said on Monday.

Bairakuppa, a small village in Karnataka, is separated by the river Kabini from Wayanad district and the residents there depend on the healthcare facilities available in Wayanad.

Speaking to news agency, Adeela Abdulla, District Collector of Wayanad, said that instructions have been issued to allow people from neighbouring states of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, who need medical facilities, to cross the border.

"Right from the start of the lockdown, we have not restricted individuals from Bairakuppa region in Mysore district to use the medical facilities in Wayanad as people in that region depend on medical facilities in Wayanad," she said.
