Hassan, Mar 1: Former Prime Minister and JD(S) supremo HD Deve Gowda has hit out at the BJP for politicizing India’s air strikes against alleged terror camps across the LoC in Kashmir, saying the saffron party is using it to promote itself.
“If wars could have won elections, the Vajpayee government should have come back to power after the Kargil war,” Gowda stated, while asking PM Narendra Modinot to be “narcissistic”.
Speaking to reporters here, Gowda said Modi, instead of commending the Indian armed forces, is trying to project himself as a hero. “This narcissistic behaviour will not do him any good,” he said.
Pointing out that BJP won 282 seats during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, but didn’t do much to resolve the Kashmir issue, Gowda said BJP leaders are claiming victory which should go to Indian soldiers.
On state BJP president BS Yeddyurappa’s comment that the non-military air strikes will help the party win 22 of the 28 Lok Sabha seats in Karnataka, Gowda said: “Nobody should talk like that.”
