Yadgir, Apr 25: BJP state president B S Yeddyurappa has expressed confidence that he would become the chief minister of Karnataka once again after May 12 Karnataka assembly polls.

Addressing a large gathering at Mudnal Layout after party candidate Venkatareddy Mudnal filed his nomination papers from Yadgir constituency yesterday, Mr Yeddyurappa dubbed the Siddaramaiah government as anti-people and urged people to teach a lesson to Congress.

“I will become Chief Minister in 18 days and people. Then you can breathe a sigh of relief. I will assure you a people-friendly and farmer-friendly government,” he said.

Mr. Yeddyurappa particularly criticised Mr. Siddaramaiah for coming to Badami after realising that he will lose in Chamundeshwari constituency and asked: “Is it not shameful for a Chief Minister, who claims that he has given pro-people governance, to search for a safe constituency?”

“Congressmen’s poverty has been eradicated but people are still living in poverty after 50 years of Congress rule. Therefore, you have to take a stern decision to send the most corrupt and an anti-people Congress government back home,” he said.

Udupi, Jan 16: Admar Mutt Junior seer Eshapriya Theertha Swami is all set to take over the reins of Krishna Mutt during the 250th Paryayotsava, scheduled to be held on January 17 and 18.

The uniqueness lies in the fact that the Admar Mutt, one of the Ashta Mutts of Krishna Mutt in this Temple town Udupi, ushers in the new Paryaya cycle (32nd). The Paryaya of outgoing seer Vidyadheesha Theertha Swami of Palimaru Mutt, Admar’s dwandwa (associate) mutt, marks the end of the cycle of eight mutts.

Under the system initiated by the Madhwa philosopher and saint Madwacharya, the seers of Ashta mutts would take turns to worship Lord Krishna every two months. Seer Vadiraja (1481-1601) ended the system and introduced the system of f running the temple administration once in two years.

Bengaluru, Jan 12: Janata Dal (Secular) chief and former prime minister H D Deve Gowda on Sunday refuted reports of him contesting in the Rajya Sabha elections and added that he is more concerned about strengthening his party in Karnataka.

"I am not interested in going to Rajya Sabha. My concern is to build and strengthen the party in the region to the best of my ability. I had declared earlier that I will not contest elections anymore," Deve Gowda told ANI here.

"My party MP D Kupendra Reddy is there in the Rajya Sabha as of now and further decisions will be taken by the party. In March 2019, towards the end of the 16th Lok Sabha I had declared that I will not contest any more elections," Deve Gowda added.

Four Rajya Sabha seats in Karnataka are about to fall vacant in June this year as two of Congress, one of BJP and JD(S) MPs retire.
