Udupi, Feb 8: Following a raid on an illegal sand extraction site at Handady village near Brahmavar, police have arrested 41 persons on Wednesday. The raid was carried out by a team of officials from the departments of Revenue, Mines and Geology headed by Assistant Commissioner of Kundapur Sub Division, Bhoobalan T with the help of police.
According to the Brahmavar police, the raid led to the arrest of 41 workers at the site on the charge of illegal sand extraction.
The team also seized 21 boats, eight trucks, 20 plastic baskets used for carrying sand, three ladders and three short-handled hoes from the site. A case has been registered. Investigation is on, the police said.
In Dakshina Kannada
Meanwhile, a team of policemen, led by the Bellare Police Sub Inspector, on Wednesday raided a place near Amara Madnur village in Dakshina Kannada and seized an earthmover and four lorries used to illegally extract sand from the Kumaradhara.
According to the police, the team saw the earthmover extracting sand from the riverbed and filling the four lorries. There was no permission to extract sand from that place, the police said.
The police seized the earthmover and the four lorries.
The police filed before the jurisdictional court a private case under the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act 1957 against four persons present at the spot.
The police said that they are awaiting permission of the court to further investigate the case and find those behind illegal extraction of sand.
