Illegal transportation: Udupi cops seize 48 cattle; arrest 4 including Dharma Foundation chief Girish

Udupi, Aug 7: Police have arrested for persons after seizing three truckloads of cattle illegally being transported from Kerala to Udupi district.

According to the police, the cattle were being transported to Katapadi Dharma Foundation Company and Research Centre in three trucks without any documents, in an inhumane manner on Wednesday.

Acting on a tip off, the Kaup police intercepted the trucks and arrested the transporters.

The arrested include Dharma Foundation chief Girish 40. The other three are Rasheed,40, a resident of Tamraseri village, Kozhikode, Jamsheer, 31, the son of Hussein, a resident of Kandajil village, Kozhikode, and Shameer M P, 42, a resident of Adivaram village. They were hired by Girish to transport the cattle.

The police intercepted the trucks at the checkpost in front of Kaup mosque at 10.45 am and rescued 48 cattle, seized three trucks and a vehicle worth Rs 28.11 lakh.

After getting the news, activists of saffron organisations and people in large numbers gathered in front of Kaup police station, which led to a tense situation.

Kaup police registered cases under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, Violation of Motor Vehicles Act and also against the illegal transportation of cattle.

Bengaluru, Apr 4: Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Friday asked Primary and Secondary Education Minister S Suresh Kumar to be the government's spokesperson on the Novel Coronavirus crisis management effort, a move that is being seen as keeping too many cooks from spoiling the broth.

At a high-level meeting to review measures on COVID-19 containment, Mr Yediyurappa is said to have taken exception to his Cabinet colleagues making multiple, and often contradictory statements, leading to confusion.

''The CM has directed Mr Kumar to be the only one to brief the media on COVID-19,'' a source from the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) confirmed.

Bengaluru, May 24: Karnataka Tourism Minister CT Ravi said that coronavirus lockdown has severely marred the tourism industry in the state and the government will revive it in a phased manner.

"It would be beneficial if hotels are opened keeping in mind few restrictions. At present, the tourism industry has fallen flat making it very difficult to promote tourism in the state," Ravi said.

"Our department has planned to promote tourism in a phased manner. In the first phase, we would focus on native tourism; then in the second phase, we will promote inter-district travel; in the third phase, we will put weight behind inter-state tourism and in the fourth phase, we would be promoting international travel and tourism," he added.

Karnataka's COVID-19 count surges to 1,958 with 216 new cases of the virus reported in the last 24 hours, said the Health Department in a bulletin on Saturday.

Out of the total number of cases, 1,307 patients are active cases and 608 patients have been discharged. The total number of fatalities due to COVID-19 in the state has risen to 42.

Bengaluru, Aug 4: Muzrai Department of Karnataka on Tuesday issued a circular requesting all temples in the state to perform special puja on Wednesday following the 'bhoomi pujan' for Ram Temple in Ayodhya.

The circular was issued on the directions of Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa, Commissioner's Office, Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowments Department Karnataka said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to lay the foundation stone of the Ram temple in Ayodhya on August 5.

The construction of Ram temple will begin in Ayodhya after the foundation ceremony in which various dignitaries from political and religious fields are scheduled to participate.

The apex court, on November 9 last year, had directed the Central government to hand over the site at Ayodhya for the construction of a Ram temple.

The formation of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teertha Kshetra Trust was announced on February 5 for the construction of Ram temple at Ayodhya. The Trust has been mandated by the Central government to oversee the construction of Ram temple in Ayodhya.
