IMA conducts Seerah Conference at Grand Mosque of Kuwait

Kuwait: Indian Muslim Association (IMA) conducted a grand Seerah conference at Grand Mosque of Kuwait as a concluding ceremony after three months of series of activities to commemorate completion of its 25 years of service in Kuwait.

The event was organized under the patronage of Minister of Justice and Awqaf and Islamic Affairs of Kuwait Dr Fahad Mohamed Mohsen Al-Afasi.

Speaking on behalf of the Minister, Mohammed Nasser Al Mutairi, Assistant Undersecretary for foreign relations and media, Ministry of Awkaf & Islamic Affairs emphasized that government of Kuwait and Ameer of Kuwait always gave importance to cultural exchange between various communities. He said that patronage of ministry for this program is also to promote cultural exchange and to convey the message that all human beings are one though they may be different in their respective culture. Quoting the verse from Quran he said that most pious person amongst people is most respected in the sight of God.

Khalid Mazhkoor Al-Muzkoor Chariman of Al-Islah Centre in his brief address said that  Indians and particularly Indian Muslims  constitute most important segment of expatriate community in Kuwait. Contribution of Indian Muslims towards the development of global Muslim community is very significant be it in the field of literature, journalism, religious education or any other fields. He said he is proud that ministry of Awkaf is patronaging the activities of various communities in Kuwait particularly Indians.

Ex MP Naser Al Sane in his address mentioned about historical indo kuwait relationship, business partnership and appreciated IMA for its constructive activities in Kuwait.

Head of the communities’ division from ministry of Awkaf and Islamic Affairs Khalid Abdurrahman Al Sinan in his remarks assured continued support and recognition of Indian community in kuwait.

Main attraction of the function was octogenarian Indian Scholar, Vice president of Muslim Personal Board and an acclaimed community leader Jalaluddin Umari. In his key note address on the subject “Prophet Mohammad a mercy to mankind’ he emphasized the humanitarian teachings of prophet Mohammad related to oneness of God and oneness of human race. He said glorious teaching of prophet Mohammad (pbuh) stressing morality, human harmony etc are more relevant teachings to address modern day challenges.

Another visiting scholar Dr Javed Mukkaram an organic chemist by profession and training and well known speaker emphasized that great teachings advocated by prophet Muhammad such as adopting perfection, hard work, broader vision are very important qualities for any communities to prosper in this world. He urged people to shun mediocracy and look for higher goals and achievements in life.

Grand Seerah conference also included parallel session for professionals, women, children, Islamic scholars. Food Mela and Seerah Expo was also among the attractions of the program. Dr. Amir Ahmad addressed the professionals on the subject of stress management whereas Sameena Afshan addressed women on the subject of role of women in the reconstruction of the society. In Seerah Expo many children presented their creative artifacts.

A multicolor souvenir comprised of informative articles was also released during the conference. Mementos were presented to Arab dignitaries by PR in charge of IMA, Iqbal Ahmad and Rafat Ali.

IMA President Masood Shihab welcomed the gathering. Vice President of IMA Sharafuddin Soofi conducted the gathering which started with recitation of Quran by Waleed Umari.

Many Kuwaiti and expatriate dignitaries, visiting scholars from India and thousands of families gathered in large number and benefited from the occasion and created an important milestone in the history of Indian community in Kuwait.

Dammam: Indian Social Forum, Dammam, Karnataka chapter organized a "Live along with COVID-19" webinar on 29 May 2020 in association with HealthCare Polyclinic, Dammam.

The webinar at Zoom App. featured over 150+ resident Kannadigas from Saudi Arabia's eastern and neighboring provinces.

Dr. Shailendranath made a presentation on the program and gave useful information. Indian Social Forum Dammam, Karnataka Chapter President Sharif Joktake delivered the keynote address. General Secretary Irshad Jokatte stalled the program.

Kuwait: State of Karnataka is enriched with Daasa culture, which had contributed immensely to its literature, culture, art & philosophy. Daasa tradition in Karnataka was part of the Bhakti movement which flourished from around 15th century and it extended considerable spiritual influence over the masses. Kuwait Kannada Koota, a socio-cultural association for the people of Karnataka in Kuwait, organized its annual Daasotsava on 14th February 2020 in remembrance of these saints, thereby displaying the rich cultural heritage of the state. 

The program started with a warm welcome address by Mrs. Spoorthy Kamath, convener of cultural committee. Divine invocation prayer by Mrs. Vasantha Ashok and Mrs. Sandhya Arun set the trend for the event. This was followed by lighting of the traditional lamp by the 2020 executive committee, comprising of President Mr. Rajesh Vittal, Vice President Mr. Sandeep Chabba, General Secretary Mr. Praveen Kumar Shetty and Treasurer Mr. Pradeep Rao. President, while welcoming the gathering, spoke about the importance of Daasas in Kannada literature & history and briefed about the series of upcoming programs. Cultural programs started with fancy dress competition by Koota children comprising of all age group starting from infants to elder kids. This program stole the show as the efforts & time invested by children and their parents were clearly visible. 

2019 executive committee was felicitated by the current committee for wonderfully managing Koota affairs & programs. This was followed by the release of Koota magazine “Marala Mallige", comprising of informative articles, drawings, poems etc., entirely contributed by the association members. Event’s main attraction “Vrindavana Leelavarana", a colorful dance drama spectacularly portrayed by 54 Koota children, was very well appreciated & received by the attendees. Association children who successfully completed 10th and 12th were felicitated as a token of encouragement. Executive committee gave away prizes to Kids who excelled in the stage competitions held earlier. Audience was treated to a divine and melodious Bhajan program conducted astutely by the ladies & men. Koota women performed Bhajan Kolata, along with ladies bhajan, in a well-coordinated manner. Vote of thanks was proposed by the secretary of Koota, thanking those who contributed for the success of the event. Another attraction was a quiz competition “Rasa Prashne", conducted efficiently between the programs, by Mr. Mahesh Shiramgond. 

The whole event was planned and executed astutely by the cultural committee under the leadership of Convener, Mrs. Spoorthy Kamath. Public Relations Committee, led by Mrs. Suparna Dambal, welcomed the members in a vibrant & colorful way, showcasing a beautifully erected divine mantap. The event was sponsored by Unimoni, LIC HFL, VSPL, Geetherb, Kotak Life Insurance, Joy Alukkas, Lulu Hypermarket & Total Environment. The program ended with a sumptuous satvik lunch, sponsored by the senior Koota member, Mr. Ramachandran Seetharaman.

Kuwait: Eid is usually a time of family get-togethers and feasts after weeks of dawn-to-dusk fasting. But this year people celebrated at home, with virus fears dampening the holiday spirit and strict restrictions in place.

Kuwait went under full curfew before the start of Ramadan leaving people to practice fasting and Ramadan rituals at home, Even Eid al-Fitr came under full lock-down period.

As situation demanded, IMA Kuwait celebrated the Eid Get-together online via video conferencing tool, All IMA members participated joyfully in Eid Milan online gathering which was scheduled immediately after Eid prayer. Members participated and congratulated each other on the eve of Eid.

The IMA president Shamvel Parviz addressed the gathering and thanked them for joining online for this unique Eid celebration which will be remembered in history. He also advised members to be aware of conditions of neighbors, friends and family and assist them if they need help in this difficult time.

Eid al-Fitr follows weeks of fasting and marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan. Thousands of Muslims all over Kuwait followed strict guideline and performed Eid prayer at home along with their family.

As a part of social service activities IMA also distributed ration kits before start of Ramadan and during Ramadan for needy people all over Kuwait.
