IMA hosts spectacular family desert picnic

Kuwait, Mar 28: Indian Muslim Association (IMA) - Kuwait organized a 'Family Desert Picnic 2013' at Wafra on the outskirts of the city. The theme of the event was ‘‘O my Lord! Increase me in Knowledge (Qur’an: Taha-114)" which was apparent in all the activities throughout the picnic.

Spacious premises with separate tents for men and women and many small tents for basic amenities in a desert provided a great escape from the routine to the entire family members.

It is a customary annual event, which provides educational discourses, entertainment, sports, Mushaira (Urdu poetry session), several kinds of competitions and various other activities to the entire family to rejoice in a leisurely atmosphere. Islamic Books and DVDs/ CDs stall was available during the picnic with displayed various contemporary books in different Indian languages.

The Picnic started with the breakfast followed by brief morning session. President of IMA, Mohammad Aslam welcomed the audience and briefed about the activities of IMA. Nisar Ahmad gave an informative presentation on the contribution of various Muslim Scientists and thinkers in the medieval period to the development of Science and technology and the body of knowledge at large. The philanthropist and prominent businessman Feroz Miller was the guest of honor for the event. IMA Youth-Wing President Faheem Shareef gave picnic guidelines to the participants to ensure discipline and safety during the entire event.

Various sports activities such as volleyball, running race and cricket etc were conducted separately for men and women. An exhibition displaying the contributions made by the Muslim scientists and thinkers in the medieval period was of prime attraction to the audience. In a parallel session, many prominent Urdu poets participated in Mushaira (Urdu poetry session) and presented their poems with big applause and appreciation from the audience.  Eminent thinkers/ poets such as Abdullah Abbasi, Masood Hassas, Afroz Alam, Aamer Kidwai and Khaled Azmi were present on the dais.

Sharfuddin Soofi, a well known speaker delivered the Friday sermon on the importance of knowledge (ilm) in Islam.  He spoke about the gift Islam bestowed to generations that is the collection and dissemination of knowledge to eradicate ignorance and enlighten the minds and souls of humankind. By employing various illustrations from the Qur’an and Islamic history, he meticulously explain the urgent need for reformation and further added that the development of Ummah does not just rely on a sound economy, but on sound knowledge and its proper use.

Evening session included dramas and cultural programs and multimedia presentations under various relevant educational themes presented by the members of IMA youth wing.  It was one of the prime attractions of the picnic that added flavor to the atmosphere. During evening session prize distribution to the winners of various competitions were given. A raffle draw among picnic participants sponsored by Air Arabia for an air ticket to and fro from Kuwait to India was held. Delicious Biryani was served to the participants for lunch.  More than twelve hundred people with their families participate in the event. Shamveel Parvez conducted the program and Mohammed Hasan worked as an event manager for the event.

Dr Soofi Anwar, Director Academics of University of Stirling RAK, UAE Campus, has achieved the prestigious professional recognition of Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) UK. He has achieved this milestone through the Stirling Framework for Evidencing Learning and Teaching Enhancement (SFELTE), the Continuing Professional Development Framework (CPD) for learning and teaching at University of Stirling, Scotland, UK. 

He was recognized for this achievement on recently concluded virtual Learning & Teaching Conference-2020 organized by University of Stirling Campus in UK.  He has secured his Ph.D. in Management from University of Azteca, Mexico.

Dr. Soofi Anwar has over 20 years of experience in teaching and academic leadership at higher education level and has worked in leading universities in UAE, Bahrain and India. He was conferred the prestigious Middle East Education Leadership Award, as the Best Professor in Management-2018 in recognition of his academic excellence, exemplary leadership in higher education. Prior to his current role, he has worked on leadership position in Birla Institute of Technology Offshore Campus RAK.

He has completed his MBA from Dept. of Business Administration, Mangalore University in 1999 and his B. Com degree from Canara College Mangaluru.

He has published numerous research papers in management and in the area of teaching and learning in higher education in reputed academic journals and international conferences proceedings. He is a member of editorial board of two leading management journals and engaged in reviewing faculty research publications in the area of management and marketing. 

He is a son of Haji Abdul Khadar Kodijal and Mrs. Mariyamma from Konaje, Mangaluru.

Kuwait: The Covid-19 pandemic has pushed the whole world into a difficult situation and the situation of Indians in Kuwait is not any different. Many people have lost their jobs, have no salary, are deprived of food and are not able to pay rent. The appalling conditions of labourers, domestic workers, taxi drivers and low waged earners don’t seem to end in Kuwait. 

At this trying situation when many people were even afraid of leaving their houses because of coronavirus, Suresh S. Rao Neramballi, volunteer of the Food Kit Distribution at the ICSG (Indian Community Support Group) has helped many tremendously. He was ready to go around delivering food kits at any time possible by his car. However, after Kuwait imposed a full curfew from 11th May 2020, no one could take out their vehicles unless they had a curfew pass. 

This did not stop Mr. Suresh Neramballi, who then borrowed a bicycle from a friend and ended up going around in the cycle delivering the food kits in curfew break time (4:30pm to 6:30pm) to all those who registered in the ICSG website. This selfless service surely commands appreciation and applause. Mr. Suresh Neramballi has been a light for many families and bachelors in Kuwait and will surely garner the blessings of them who have been able to eat at this time.

He was also the one who could deliver the food kits to many Indian Muslim maids, bachelors, laborers and families previous day and right on the day of EID, as they were not able to go shopping for their groceries for EID, due to the curfew. They blessed him in EID dua. 

Mr. Suresh Neramballi hails from Mangaluru, India and is an Engineer in the Oil sector company in Kuwait. He has been dedicated to social service, achieved 'Aryabhata International Award' for his Kannada Service and Social service, served in many Associations and Distributor of Kannada and Tulu Movies in Kuwait. He wholeheartedly thanks the people and government of Kuwait for his bread and butter.

God bless you brother and keep you healthy plus happy always.   You will be in the prayers of those who receivec your timely regardles they are hindu or muslim or christian.   This is a slap on the face of hate mongers who are always trying to divide the socieity in the name of religion.    Such people are burden to this world and society.   We should clean our society from such dirt and bad people.   Well done brother.  May God bless you.

Kuwait City, Aug 9: Indian social forum organised Blood Donation Camp in association with central blood bank kuwait on Friday, 7th August 2020.

The forum organised camp to support the high demand of blood in the context of COVID-19.

All arrangements to maintain COVID-19 protocol were made in the camp including segregation of donors as branch wise batches along with strict safety measures of participants.

Forum also had donated blood to many patients during the lockdown period. 

Hundreds of people donated blood in the camp. The camp organised in Blood Bank, Jabriya was successfully managed by Dr. Asma Rafat and leaders of Indian social forum Vice President Aslam, Secretory Sayyid Bukhari Thangal, Moideen Koya, Khaleel, Aseem, Mohammed Sha, Shihab, Naushad,
Indian Social Forum expressed their deep appreciation and gratitude to the doctors, staff and management of blood bank, forum’s members and donors.
