IMA-Kuwait hosts inter-faith Iftar get-together

Kuwait: ‘Unity in diversity is the strength for us Indians and India…” thought expressed by Sunil Jain, the Indian Ambassador to Kuwait. He was addressing a gathering of Indian expats from different faiths and walks at an Iftar party organized by Indian Muslim Association – Kuwait.

Fahaheel and Abu-Halifa Units of Indian Muslim Association (IMA-Kuwait) organized an Interfaith Iftar Party at Saad MutlaqIsbiyae Auditorium, Fintas, inviting people from various faiths to foster friendship. Sunil Jain and Abdul Aziz Al-Duaij, Manager IT - KNPC were present as chief guests.

Sunil Jain said, “We celebrate diversity and our motto is unity in diversity”. He said that Ramadan is to make us free from ego, lust and to feel the hunger of poor, which is the ultimate means of understanding the hardship of poor people in real life. Moreover, he insisted that we should keep away from those, who tend to divide us on the name of religion, Quoting Gandhiji “Ishwar Allah Tere Naam, Sabko Sanmarti De Bhagwaan”.

Abdul Aziz Al-Duaij emphasised that Ramadan is to energize the soul, and to work for being a good human being to others.
Other eminent personalities on the dais includesDr.AbhayPatwari; President, Indian Doctors forum, Venkata SivaRao, President Telagu Kala Sanmati&Jeyakumar, President - Tamilnad Engineers Forum.GS Reddy and Satish Chandra Shetty were also present on the dais. They appreciate the initiatives taken by IMA.

HasanTaha, an Islamic scholar delivered a lecture on the subject, ‘The Message of Ramadan’. He stated that Islam give us freedom of selection. He quoted from Qur’an ‘There shall be no compulsion in Religion’. He highlighted the highest moral character exhibited by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), that he was the man with highest moral character.

Sharafuddin Soofi, an academic counsellor and media personality delivered a talk on ‘Religious Harmony: Need of the Hour’. He emphasised the respect ordained by the Holy Quran for the humanitarian values. He highlighted the importance of harmony. He said thatatomic particles to the celestial bodies in universe are in perfect harmony with each other.

He quoted from the holy Quran “O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another. Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you”.

He stressed the eradicationof newly emerged evil of ‘Intellectual - Untouchability’ in our society. Various Communities should come closer and understandeach other. The lame way of trying to know others by simply looking into the behaviour of has led into many misconceptions and fears. He ended his speech by the couplet of Iqbal “ Mazhab Nahi Sikhata Aapas Me Bair Rakhna, Hindi Hai Hum WatanHai Hindustan Hamara…”

A brief introduction about IMA’s objectives and activities was given by ParvezHanif. Where he highlighted IMA’s services rendered to Indian community by conducting several social activities. This is in the form of educational workshops, relief funds, awareness campaigns and the like.

The program was followed by an open Question & Answer session and got concluded with a delicious buffet dinner. The Program was started with the recitation of Holy Qur’an. Parvez Hanif convened the program. IMA General Secretary Arshad Habeeb was present on the dais. Mansour gave vote of thanks. Around four hundred people attended the event.

Kuwait: State of Karnataka is enriched with Daasa culture, which had contributed immensely to its literature, culture, art & philosophy. Daasa tradition in Karnataka was part of the Bhakti movement which flourished from around 15th century and it extended considerable spiritual influence over the masses. Kuwait Kannada Koota, a socio-cultural association for the people of Karnataka in Kuwait, organized its annual Daasotsava on 14th February 2020 in remembrance of these saints, thereby displaying the rich cultural heritage of the state. 

The program started with a warm welcome address by Mrs. Spoorthy Kamath, convener of cultural committee. Divine invocation prayer by Mrs. Vasantha Ashok and Mrs. Sandhya Arun set the trend for the event. This was followed by lighting of the traditional lamp by the 2020 executive committee, comprising of President Mr. Rajesh Vittal, Vice President Mr. Sandeep Chabba, General Secretary Mr. Praveen Kumar Shetty and Treasurer Mr. Pradeep Rao. President, while welcoming the gathering, spoke about the importance of Daasas in Kannada literature & history and briefed about the series of upcoming programs. Cultural programs started with fancy dress competition by Koota children comprising of all age group starting from infants to elder kids. This program stole the show as the efforts & time invested by children and their parents were clearly visible. 

2019 executive committee was felicitated by the current committee for wonderfully managing Koota affairs & programs. This was followed by the release of Koota magazine “Marala Mallige", comprising of informative articles, drawings, poems etc., entirely contributed by the association members. Event’s main attraction “Vrindavana Leelavarana", a colorful dance drama spectacularly portrayed by 54 Koota children, was very well appreciated & received by the attendees. Association children who successfully completed 10th and 12th were felicitated as a token of encouragement. Executive committee gave away prizes to Kids who excelled in the stage competitions held earlier. Audience was treated to a divine and melodious Bhajan program conducted astutely by the ladies & men. Koota women performed Bhajan Kolata, along with ladies bhajan, in a well-coordinated manner. Vote of thanks was proposed by the secretary of Koota, thanking those who contributed for the success of the event. Another attraction was a quiz competition “Rasa Prashne", conducted efficiently between the programs, by Mr. Mahesh Shiramgond. 

The whole event was planned and executed astutely by the cultural committee under the leadership of Convener, Mrs. Spoorthy Kamath. Public Relations Committee, led by Mrs. Suparna Dambal, welcomed the members in a vibrant & colorful way, showcasing a beautifully erected divine mantap. The event was sponsored by Unimoni, LIC HFL, VSPL, Geetherb, Kotak Life Insurance, Joy Alukkas, Lulu Hypermarket & Total Environment. The program ended with a sumptuous satvik lunch, sponsored by the senior Koota member, Mr. Ramachandran Seetharaman.

Kuwait: Eid is usually a time of family get-togethers and feasts after weeks of dawn-to-dusk fasting. But this year people celebrated at home, with virus fears dampening the holiday spirit and strict restrictions in place.

Kuwait went under full curfew before the start of Ramadan leaving people to practice fasting and Ramadan rituals at home, Even Eid al-Fitr came under full lock-down period.

As situation demanded, IMA Kuwait celebrated the Eid Get-together online via video conferencing tool, All IMA members participated joyfully in Eid Milan online gathering which was scheduled immediately after Eid prayer. Members participated and congratulated each other on the eve of Eid.

The IMA president Shamvel Parviz addressed the gathering and thanked them for joining online for this unique Eid celebration which will be remembered in history. He also advised members to be aware of conditions of neighbors, friends and family and assist them if they need help in this difficult time.

Eid al-Fitr follows weeks of fasting and marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan. Thousands of Muslims all over Kuwait followed strict guideline and performed Eid prayer at home along with their family.

As a part of social service activities IMA also distributed ration kits before start of Ramadan and during Ramadan for needy people all over Kuwait.

Dr Soofi Anwar, Director Academics of University of Stirling RAK, UAE Campus, has achieved the prestigious professional recognition of Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) UK. He has achieved this milestone through the Stirling Framework for Evidencing Learning and Teaching Enhancement (SFELTE), the Continuing Professional Development Framework (CPD) for learning and teaching at University of Stirling, Scotland, UK. 

He was recognized for this achievement on recently concluded virtual Learning & Teaching Conference-2020 organized by University of Stirling Campus in UK.  He has secured his Ph.D. in Management from University of Azteca, Mexico.

Dr. Soofi Anwar has over 20 years of experience in teaching and academic leadership at higher education level and has worked in leading universities in UAE, Bahrain and India. He was conferred the prestigious Middle East Education Leadership Award, as the Best Professor in Management-2018 in recognition of his academic excellence, exemplary leadership in higher education. Prior to his current role, he has worked on leadership position in Birla Institute of Technology Offshore Campus RAK.

He has completed his MBA from Dept. of Business Administration, Mangalore University in 1999 and his B. Com degree from Canara College Mangaluru.

He has published numerous research papers in management and in the area of teaching and learning in higher education in reputed academic journals and international conferences proceedings. He is a member of editorial board of two leading management journals and engaged in reviewing faculty research publications in the area of management and marketing. 

He is a son of Haji Abdul Khadar Kodijal and Mrs. Mariyamma from Konaje, Mangaluru.
