Impose President's rule or dismiss Karnataka government: Shiv Sena to Centre

New Delhi, Jul 22: Ahead of the scheduled trust vote in Karnataka Assembly, BJP ally Shiv Sena on Monday said chief minister HD Kumaraswamy should have resigned as he has lost majority and asked the Centre to either dismiss the Congress-JD (S) government or impose President's law in the state.

"Everyone in Karnataka is flouting democracy norms. Why is the Central government quietly watching this drama by both sides? Either impose President's rule or dismiss the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. Do anything but finish this drama in Karnataka," Shiv Sena said in an editorial in its mouthpiece Saamana.

It further said: "It is hard to predict when this drama would come to an end. Kumaraswamy should have left the government following the democratic and Parliamentary tradition. The country is watching that a chief minister is struggling to remain in his chair despite losing majority."

The ongoing high-voltage political drama is likely to culminate today when the Congress-JD(S) coalition government faces the crucial floor test in the Assembly after missing two deadlines set by governor Vajubhai Vala.

In a seemingly last-ditch attempt to persuade rebel MLAs, Karnataka chief minister HD Kumaraswamy on Sunday appealed to them to attend the Assembly session and explain how the BJP allegedly sabotaged democratic edifice and "destroyed its sanctity".

All eyes are now on the proceedings of the day particularly in the backdrop of BJP alleging the Speaker KR Ramesh Kumar of dragging his feet on floor test. On Friday, the Assembly failed to meet two deadlines set by governor Vajubhai Vala to complete the trust vote.

The 13-month-old coalition government slumped into a minority earlier this month following the resignation of 16 dissident MLAs of the ruling coalition including 13 of Congress and three of JD(S).

The state Assembly has 225 members, including one nominated MLA. The halfway mark in the 225-member Assembly is 113.

U T Khader urges centre, state govt to address peoples' concern on CAA

Mangaluru, Jan 16: Following the widespread protests against the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), former minister and MLA UT Khader on Thursday urged the Centre and State government to address the concerns of the people.

Speaking to reporters here on Thursday, he said there is widespread confusion among the public with regard to the implementation of the Act. People are reluctant to open their doors to Asha workers, out of fear that the NRC exercise is being implemented, said Khader.

He urged the chief minister and home minister to gain the trust of the people on the CAA issue.

PFI, SDPI will be banned; party hopper MLAs who joined BJP will be awarded: K S Eshwarappa

Mysuru, Jan 19: Karnataka Rural Development and Panchyat Raj Minister K S Eshwarappa on Sunday claimed that Popular Front of India and Social Democratic Party of India have been indulging in anti-national activities.

Talking to media persons here, he said the government is mulling to ban and take action against PFI and its political arm SDPI.

It was recommended even during the previous government, but it was not taken seriously, he added.

He said that the BJP will ensure that all the MLAs who were instrumental in the party coming to power (the then-disqualified MLAs who joined BJP from Congress and JDS recently and won the bypoll subsequently) will not be let down and be given suitable posts in the government.

Cops recover gold worth Rs 40 lakh from three member Irani gang

Bengaluru, Mar 21: Central Crime Branch (CCB) sleuths have nabbed a three-member Irani gang, including a woman and recovered from them 1 kg 33 gram stolen gold chains worth about Rs 40 lakh.

City Police Commissioner Bhaskar Rao told newsmen here on Saturday that the arrested were identified as Abujar, Abdul Hussain and Ms. Jenia, all hailed from Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh.

He said that the culprits, who had been arrested on similar theft cases, were out on bail and continued their criminal activities. They were involved in more than 23 cases.
