New Delhi, Jan 25: Ajinkya Rahane took a good catch at deep mid-wicket to dismiss centurion Martin Guptill off Ravindra Jadeja in the third one-day international at Eden Park in Auckland on Saturday.

Guptill hit 2 sixes and 12 fours in his 129-ball 111 before falling to Jadeja.

Guptill's fifth ODI ton, his first against India came off 123 balls as New Zealand crossed the 200-run mark in the 34th over.

New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum then fell for a duck as he was caught by Ravichandran Ashwin off Varun Aaron.

Mohammed Shami and Ashwin dismissed Kane Williamson and Corey Anderson respectively in successive overs.

Williamson hit a six and 4 fours in his 74-ball 65 before he was clean biowled by Shami.

Anderson hit one six in his 5-ball 8 before he was castled by Ashwin.

Martin Guptill and Williamson hit half-centuries to build a solid platform for a formidable total.

The partnership between Guptill and Williamson came after Bhuvneshwar Kumar struck in the fifth over to give India an early breakthrough.

Bhuvneshwar clean bowled Jesse Ryder (20) to reduce New Zealand to 36/1 in 4.2 overs, after the hosts started their innings aggressively. Ryder slammed four boundaries in his 12-ball short stay at the crease.

Earlier, India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss and decided to field against the hosts.

India made one change from the playing eleven of the second ODI with Varun Aaron replacing out-of-form pacer Ishant Sharma.

New Zealand also made one change with pacer Hamish Bennett coming in for Kyle Mills.

Dhoni's men lost the first ODI at Napier by 24 runs and then went down in the second one-dayer by 15 runs (D/L method) at Hamilton.

Overall, Dhoni and Co. have lost four of their last five one-dayers, all of which were played outside the sub-continent. This has undoubtedly opened up a number of points for the concerned team to ponder upon.

Even as the visiting camp may seem chaotic, the hosts are particularly calm and composed.

Since New Zealand have a cushion of two victories going ahead, they will be looking to close-out the series in the third match itself, given that the fourth ODI is again in Hamilton where the square is arguably slower.

While windy Wellington could be fairly unpredictable for a series finale.

Teams:

India: MS Dhoni (Capt.), Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, Suresh Raina, Ravindra Jadeja, R Ashwin, Mohammed Shami, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Varun Aaron.

New Zealand: Brendon McCullum (Capt.), Corey Anderson, Martin Guptill, Mitchell McClenaghan, Nathan McCullum, Jesse Ryder, Tim Southee, Ross Taylor, Kane Williamson, Hamish Bennett, Luke Ronchi.

Mumbai, Jun 6: Reminiscing about his 'special knock' of 208 runs from 153 balls, Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma revealed why his wife Ritika had got emotional after he smashed his third double century in ODIs.

Rohit narrated the incident during his appearance in Episode 2 of the 'Open nets with Mayank'.

The batsman, who was accompanied by Shikhar Dhawan and Mayank on the show, said his wife thought that he had twisted his hand while diving for the 196th run during the innings.

"As you can see my wife got emotional there, this day was special as it was my anniversary. Probably the best gift I could give it to her while I am on the field, it was quite emotional though," said Rohit during the candid chat.

"When I came from the ground, I just asked her why did you (Ritika) cry? So she told me that she thought I (Rohit) twisted my hand when I dived for my 196th run and that was a little worrying factor for her, she got little emotional of because of that I guess," Rohit added.

In the match, the 32-year-old scored 208 runs with 13 fours and 12 sixes against Sri Lanka at Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali.

This enabled India to post a score of 392/4 in the allotted fifty overs.

India then went on to win the match by 141 runs.

"To be honest I was going pretty slow, I never thought I will get to a double hundred but once you cross 125, I feel it gets easier for you because bowlers are under pressure. Unless you make a mistake I don't think you can get out," said Rohit.

Rohit has scored two double hundreds against Sri Lanka and one against Australia in ODIs. The right-handed batsman is the only cricketer to make three double hundreds in ODI history.

Rohit, Shikhar, and Mayank would have been in action for Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, and Kings XI Punjab respectively, had the Indian Premier League (IPL) commenced from March 29. However, the tournament was suspended indefinitely due to the coronavirus pandemic.
