‘Independent’ Nagesh, who recently became minister, withdraws support to HDK govt

Bengaluru, Jul 8: In yet another blow to beleaguered HD Kumaraswamy government in Karnataka, Independent MLA and Small Scale Industries Minister H Nagesh has tendered his resignation from the Cabinet and has withdrawn support to the Congress-JD(S) coalition.

Nagesh, who was inducted into the Cabinet just last month, has written to Governor Vajubhai R Vala stating that he would extend support to the BJP if the saffron party formed its government.

“I would by this letter, inform your good self that, I withdraw my support to the government (sic),” Nagesh has stated in a letter to the Governor. In another letter, Nagesh has stated: “I would extend my support to the government of Bharatiya Janata Party if called for by your good self.”

Nagesh, who represents the Mulbagal constituency, was inducted into the Cabinet by Kumaraswamy expressly to shore up the numbers of his government in the Assembly.

Nagesh’s withdrawal could make the going tougher for the Congress-JD(S) coalition, which is grappling to deal with the resignation of 13 legislators - ten of the Congress and three JD(S). The 13 rebels, most of whom are camped in a Mumbai hotel, appear firm on their decision even as the coalition leadership is making all efforts to convince them.

Meanwhile, the Congress leadership has obtained the resignation letters of all its ministers. Sports Minister Rahim Khan confirmed that all Congress ministers had resigned so that Cabinet positions can be offered to the rebels.

New Delhi, Mar 21: Karnataka Health and Family Welfare Minister B. Sriramulu on Saturday informed that one more person was tested positive for the coronavirus in the state.

He said that a total of 16 persons have been tested positive for COVID-19 in the state so far.

The victim had come from Mecca and was kept in quarantine facility by the state authorities.

"For a 32-year-old man, who had just returned from a trip to Mecca has found COVID-19 positive. The infection has been confirmed. He has already been treated at an isolated ward of the hospital. Citizens must not have any sort of anxiety," tweeted Sriramulu.

Also, the news and public relations department, the Indian Red Cross Society and the Karnataka State Labour Studies Institute have invited volunteers for the programme to provide real-time information to people to avoid spreading rumours and misinformation about coronavirus.

At least four volunteers will work in four shifts per day in each taluk of the state. There are about 120 volunteers in Bengaluru city and about 3,000 Corona Warriors are expected to register from across the state. Over 400 volunteers have registered via online application on the first day.

Mangaluru, Apr 26: After directions from Karnataka government, migrant labourers are being sent to their native villages in batches by hiring as many as 60 buses.

Divisional Controller of Mangaluru KSRTC Division S N Arun said on Sunday that 100 buses from Mangaluru and Puttur ferried stranded labourers on Saturday. Buses were disinfected before the journey.

Buses also left from Dharmasthala, Bantwal, Puttur and Sullia to different destinations. In adherence to social distancing rules, each bus left with 20 to 22 labourers.

Mangaluru, May 6: A day after a wild bison dies lost its life hours after being tranquilized in Mangaluru, another wild bison appeared in the Ashok Nagar area of the coastal city today.

In fact, two bison were spotted in Mangaluru yesterday. The two were reportedly wandering together early in the morning. Later one was spotted in Mannagudda and the other in Hathill area.

While one of them was tranquillized by an official of a Pilikula Biological Park and captured, another bison had gone missing.

The captured animal, however, died later in the day due to cardiac arrest.

According to official, it is common for herbivores, which are sedated to ensure their safe capture, to suffer cardiac arrest.

Meanwhile, Forest department officials have launched an operation to capture the second bison. It is believed that it is the same bison which went missing yesterday.
