London, Nov 13: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that “necessary conditions” for take-off of the Indian economy have been created and has held out an assurance that it will get “better and better” in the coming days.

Speaking before a business audience at the historic Guildhall in London on Thursday, Modi also said that India is among the “most open” countries for foreign investments with the latest round of FDI reforms, asserting, at this point of time, it is “wiser to be in India.”

Stating that he is personally eager to work with the British government and companies, he vowed “my personal care in making your dreams a reality.”

The Prime Minister also sounded hopeful of India successfully rolling out the new goods and services tax in 2016.

“Necessary conditions for take-off of the Indian economy have been created. Never before, India was so well prepared to absorb talent, technology and investment from outside. I can assure you that it will get better and better in the coming days.

“We will be open to welcome your ideas, innovations and enterprises. We are open to carry out necessary corrections in our policies and procedures,” he said.

Stating that there were a number of regulatory and taxation issues which were adversely impacting on the sentiments of foreign investors, Modi said the government has taken “very decisive” steps to remove a number of long pending concerns.

In this context, he cited examples like how regulatory clearances including security and environmental clearance have been expedited and increasing the validity period of defence industrial licences up to eighteen years from three years previously.

“Since my government took over, we have been working relentlessly to put the economy on track.,” he said, adding,” The results of our hard work are now visible. IMF chief has recently said that India is among few bright spots in global economy today. Our growth rate in the last year was 7.3 percent.”

Modi said his government was working on all fronts to make India a global manufacturing hub, adding the hall mark of our strategy now is policy-driven governance.

Noting that his government was also conscious of the last mile operational issues in its policies, the prime minister said that in that spirit substantial changes have been carried out in the FDI regime across 15 sectors.

“With this round of reforms, I can say that India is among the most open countries for foreign investments,” he said.

“We want to make sure that our tax regime is transparent and predictable. We are also keen to see that genuine investors and honest tax payers get quick and fair decisions on tax matters.”

Modi told his audience that in just eighteen months his government has successfully restored the credibility of India in the eyes of global players.

New Delhi, May 23: On the occasion of Jumat-ul-Vida, the last Friday of the ongoing holy month of Ramzan, a select group of people offered namaz at Delhi's Jama Masjid ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, while adhering to social distancing following relaxations in the fourth phase of the COVID-19 lockdown.

"A large number of people wanted to offer prayers today but we told them they should do so from their homes. Only the staff of the mosque and a few members of the family offered prayers here," Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid said.

The coronavirus pandemic has also marred the excitement of Eid for the vegetable and fruit vendors in neighbouring Daryaganj.

The fourth phase of nation-wide lockdown extended till May 31, began from Monday in which markets and shops were allowed to open. However, due to persisting fear of COVID-19, the sale of products is yet to pick pace.

Unlike each year, the market lacks the sheen this Eid with no bustle and people cautious about venturing out.

Salim, who has been selling cheese and curd in the market for the last 35 years, told ANI, "I have never seen such an Eid. There is an atmosphere of fear in the minds of people."

Another fruit seller Haseen Malik said that "During the month of Ramadan, most people relish fruits such as musk melon, sweet lemon and watermelon so there is some demand for it. But there is no excitement for Eid this year. The sale has been at an all-time low because of the lockdown."

In the wake of the festival and to ensure social distancing, Delhi Police has made elaborate security arrangements.

Dubey was killed in an encounter after a police vehicle carrying him from Ujjain to Kanpur met with an accident and he tried to escape from the spot, police said.

"Darasal ye car nahi palti, raj khulne se sarkar palatne se bach gayi hai," (Actually, the car did not topple. It is an effort to save the government which would have toppled if facts came to light)," Yadav said in a tweet in Hindi.

Bhopal, Mar 12: The Madhya Pradesh Congress on Thursday took a dig at Jyotiraditya Scindia, who broke ranks with the party and joined BJP on Wednesday, by pointing out that neither Prime Minister Narendra Modi nor Amit Shah had not even put out as much a tweet to welcome him in the party, and construed it as "humiliation" for the "maharaja".

"Not even a tweet by Narendra Modi-ji or Amit Shah-ji to welcome Scindia-ji! Modi-ji, Shah-ji, at least do not do it so soon. It has not even been 24 hours yet and you guys have already started humiliating him...!" Madya Pradesh Congress tweeted in Hindi.

Taking a jibe at Mr Scindia, a member of the erstwhile royal family of Gwalior who ended his 18-year-long association with the Congress party on a bitter note, the state Congress said: "He is a maharaja, the one whose history is often mentioned by Shivraj-ji (former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan)."

On Wednesday, Jyotiraditya  Scindia joined BJP in New Delhi in the presence of party president JP Nadda. He had resigned from Congress a day earlier after meeting Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Mr Scindia will file his nomination for the Rajya Sabha elections on March 13. He is expected to go to Bhopal today.
