India needs you: Rahul Gandhi tells NRI students in Dubai

Dubai, Jan 12: Indian students studying in the UAE will have an increasingly important role to play in shaping the future of India, according to Rahul Gandhi, present of All India Congress Committee.

Interacting with the students at the Institute of Management Technology Dubai on Saturday, the second day of his two-day visit to the UAE, Gandhi said NRI (Non-Resident Indian) students’ knowledge and understanding will serve the interests of India and be beneficial to the UAE as well.

“You’re NRIs… You have a role in India, and it's a role that will increase, not decrease,” he told students during an interactive session with them.

Gandhi said India will need the “help and service” from NRI graduates in solving job and agriculture “crises” in India. He added that India is currently suffering from “the highest rate of unemployment in over a decade… It's important that India accepts we have a job crisis and an agricultural crisis. These two have to be resolved and they will require your help and service”.

He added: “I'm very proud of what you do and I know you will serve India and the UAE very effectively.”

Another main challenge facing India is the “intolerance that is visible today in India… We don't like an India that is divided… where people are beaten up and killed for what they say; where journalists are shot. That's the real challenge in the next election and a large number to people aren't happy with what's going on”.

The interactive session saw Gandhi take a variety of questions from students on healthcare, women's empowerment, industry, business, education, etc — and also pose a few questions of his own.

Gandhi asked various students questions such as what they would do as prime minister of India, where they would work and why, how can there be unity in diversity, how the Middle East is different from India, and others.

“I can ask tough questions,” Gandhi said in a light moment with students. He is scheduled to visit Abu Dhabi later on Saturday to meet business leaders.

On Friday, Gandhi had addressed tens of thousands of India expats at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

2 kids die after they mistook pesticide for juice; mother attempts suicide

Yadgir, Feb 27: A four-year-old girl and her four-month-old sibling died after consuming pesticide mistaking it to juice at Kodal village in Vadagera taluk of Yadgir district on Wednesday.

After noticing her daughters lying lifeless, mother Shehnaz attempted suicide by consuming poison.

Khairunna (4) mistook pesticide for juice and consumed it while her mother was busy doing household chores. She also reportedly made her four-month-old sister drink.

Upon seeing the siblings lying lifeless, Shehnaz, fearing her husband and mother-in-law, attempted suicide by consuming poison.

All three were rushed to Yadgir district hospital. The siblings died while their mother is battling for her life.

Nalin Kumar Kateel hits out at Kharge for anti-Modi remark

Chitradurga, Feb 10: President of the BJP State unit Nalin Kumar Kateel on Sunday hit out at Congress leader M. Mallikarjun Kharge for allegedly likening Prime Minister Narendra Modi to a “zero candle bulb”.

Mr. Kateel told reporters here that Mr. Modi was a “1,000 watt bulb that gave light to the world”, and compared Mr. Kharge to a lamp that had burned out politically.

Mr. Kateel charged that Mr. Kharge had become frustrated after losing the elections and after his party did not even consider him for a Rajya Sabha seat. And this had made the Congress leader to make wild charges against the Prime Minister.

Lashing out at the Congress, Mr. Kateel alleged that the Congress was continuing the “divide and rule” policy of the British and accused the former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda of being the “other face of the Congress”.

Mr. Kateel also came down on the former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He ridiculed the Congress for the delay in choosing a new KPCC chief after Dinesh Gundu Rao submitted his resignation.

1-month-old baby dies as 10 private hospitals refuse treatment over corona fears

Bengaluru, July 17: An infant with heart-related complications died after 10 private hospitals in the city allegedly refused to admit him over coronavirus fears.

In search of a hospital to treat his one-month-old child, the helpless father drove around for 200km in the city. The child breathes its last after suffering for 36 hours.

The infant’s health worsened around 11am on Sunday. “A doctor from a nearby clinic visited our house and said the baby had heart-related issues. As advised, we decided to shift the child to a private hospital,” the father said. The family lives in Basaveshwaranagar.

The parents went to several private hospitals, but in vain. “We visited hospitals in Bavaveshwaranagar, Chord Road, Sheshadripuram, Goraguntepalya and Yeshwanthpur. None of them agreed to treat our baby, and we returned home at night,” the father said.

“On Monday morning, we started the journey again. This time, we went to a hospital near Jayadeva flyover. We were driving near Marathahalli when our child stopped breathing. We rushed to a nearby private hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead,” he said.
