Udupi, Jul 9: Expressing frustration over the recent demand by a section of ‘progressive thinkers’ to disassociate himself from Ram Janmabhoomi movement, Paryaya Pejawar Mutt seer Sri Vishwesha Theertha Swami said that Ram Mandir is the right of Hindus and it is impossible to give away the land to construct a mosque.pejawar

Speaking to media persons here, the seer, however, clarified that he did not envisage the country as purely the land of Hindus. “India belongs to all Indians and not for any particular community or religion,” he said.

The seer said Ram Mandir will be built at Sri Ram Janmabhoomi site as inscriptions prove the existence of temple on the spot. But consensus on the issue cannot be achieved through violence, he said.

Lamenting that progressive thinkers insist on achieving harmony at the cost of right, the seer said, “Is it possible to give away Kashmir to Pakistan for peace and prevent violence? Let the progressive thinkers reconsider their opinion by working out possibilities. Kashmir is India’s right. Similarly, Ram Mandir is the right of Hindus. The privilege of secularism should have limitations.”

Earlier this week, Karnataka Komu Sauharda Vedike leader G Rajashekhar had challenged the seer to quit the leadership of the committee that works on Sri Ram Janmabhoomi and also oppose the idea of Hindu nation for India.

Speaking at a protest rally organised by Solidarity Youth Movement on communal terrorism, Rajashekhar said that the seer has done a commendable work by organising Iftar party to Muslims. But the seer should not forget that he is even now seen as the leader of Hindu community and he has to get rid of the image he has already developed being part of fanatical movement conceptualised by the hard core Hindu fundamentalists, he urged.

Bengaluru, Jan 14: Days after the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) capped to Rs 35,000 the withdrawal limit of Sri Guru Raghavendra Co-operative Bank, BJP MP Tejasvi Surya on Monday reassured account holders and said Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman was personally monitoring the issue.

Taking to Twitter, Surya said, "I want to assure all depositors of Sri Guru Raghavendra Co-operative Bank to not panic. Hon'ble Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is appraised of matter and is personally monitoring the issue. She has assured the government will protect interests of depositors. Grateful for her concern."

The Bengaluru South MP also attached a letter in his tweet where he had appraised Sitharaman of the situation.

"Finance Minister, after speaking with the RBI governor and other authorities concerned, assured Surya that the government will do everything in its capacity to protect the interests of the depositors and the long term interests of the bank," the letter read.

It said that Surya also reached out to Sitharaman "three times on January 13" after which she reassured him that the "depositors need not panic".

RBI had, on January 10, imposed certain restrictions on Sri Gururaghavendra Sahakara Bank Niyamitha.

"In particular, a sum not exceeding Rs 35,000 of the total balance in every savings bank or current account or any other deposit account may be allowed to be withdrawn subject to conditions stated in the above RBI directions," the notification said.

The regulatory body said that the bank will continue to undertake banking business with restrictions until its financial position improves.

"These directions shall remain in force for a period of six months from the close of business of January 10 and are subject to review," it said.

The bank has been restricted from granting or renewing any loans and advances, make any investment, incur any liability including borrowal of funds and acceptance of fresh deposits, disburse or agree to disburse any payment whether in discharge of its liabilities and obligations or otherwise, enter into any compromise or arrangement and sell, transfer or otherwise dispose of any of its properties or assets except.

Mangaluru, Apr 3: The Dakshina Kannada district administration’s decision to ban use of private vehicles, excluding permitted categories, from Friday for effective implementation of lockdown, began showing results since morning itself.

Mangaluru City Traffic Police and Dakshina Kannada district police erected several pickets at vantage places on arterial roads to check those moving without a valid reason. Several two-wheelers were seized during the checking while a few car drivers were let off with a strict warning.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic), M Manjunatha Shetty, who was supervising a picket at Hampankatta, said that movement of private vehicles has drastically reduced in the city.
