India wants Pakistan to repatriate Abhinandan unconditionally

New Delhi, Feb 28: Abhinandan is in the custody of Pakistan Army after his MiG-21 aircraft went down yesterday in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) while chasing 20 fighter jets of Pakistan Air Force which transgressed 10 kms into Indian air space beyond the Line of Control (LoC), using laser bombs to target military installations in Jammu and Kashmir.

Wing Commander Abhinandan should be repatriated unconditionally and there can be no deal on this issue between the two countries, sources asserted here on Thursday.

Abhinandan was flying a MiG-21 Bison fighter plane which went down in PoK while chasing F-16 combat aircraft of the Pakistan Air Force after the latter violated the Indian airspace in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday morning. One of the F-16s was shot down in the aerial engagement which took place at around 9.45 am.

The sources said that if Pakistan, after capturing the Wing Commander, thinks they have a card to negotiate with, they do not have any.

Pakistan is trying to create Kandahar-type pressure, but India will not give in, the sources said.

There will be no deal or talks with Pakistan on this, they said, adding India expected a humane treatment meted out to the Wing Commander.

Giving details of yesterday's transgression by the Pakistan Air Force, the sources said there is escalation from the Pakistani side and the Indian side was forced to engage.

They added that the Indian side caused a casualty in the downing of Pakistani aircraft (F-16) and foiled Pakistan's attempts.

The sources said Pakistan has been spreading disinformation and creating a war psychosis by actions like closing its air space and stopping the Indo-Pak Samjhauta Express.

Pakistan has also been lying that India had moved Naval ships to launch missile strikes, sources said.India has not targeted any civilian or military facility in Pakistan, the sources said.

The sources maintained that Indian Air Force's target was a terror facility of the Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) outfit in Balakot in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the sources said.

The narrative is back to counter terrorism, they said, adding it is time India diplomatically convinces the world about the justifiable grounds on which the February 26 action was taken.

The permanent members of the United Nations Security Council can now see through Pakistan's methods, sources said.

The sources wondered whether the Pakistani Prime Minister knew the truth or he was not informed.

About terrorism, they said the External Affairs Ministry handed over a dossier on JeM to the acting High Commissioner of Pakistan yesterday, sharing evidence about the terror outfit's activities in India.

Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan must now walk the talk on dealing with terrorism, sources said, adding that this is India's message to the international community.

India needs immediate credible information on terrorism and nothing short of that will be acceptable, sources said.

The sources informed that India considered sharing actionable information about the JeM camp, but felt it would of no use as India gave everything during the attack in Pathankot, but Pakistan didn't do anything.

Sources said the proposed talks on Kartarpur have not been called off by the Indian side.

While India is ready for talks on Kartarpur, Pakistan has called it off.

Jun 5: Underworld don Dawood Ibrahim and his wife Mahzabeen have tested positive for COVID-19, a top government source told CNN News 18. They were admitted to the Army Hospital in Karachi.

Some of Dawood's personal staff and guards have also been quarantined, the report said on Friday.

Dawood was the mastermind of the 1993 Mumbai blasts and is one of the most-wanted gangsters by India. He has allegedly been living in Pakistan but the neighbouring country has always refusing to accept it.

Earlier in the day, a senior diplomat of the American embassy in Pakistan has tested positive for the novel coronavirus, a media report said.

In a statement, the embassy's spokesman said that while maintaining the privacy, the name of the citizen would not be disclosed.

The US State Department is responsible to protect its citizens, wherever they are, the spokesman added. In coordination with the Pakistani authorities, the consulate is working to enforce the coronavirus protocol in order to stem its spread. The spokesman added that isolation wards, contact tracing and quarantine facility are part of such protocols.

Meanwhile, Pakistan has 89,249 COVID-19 cases and the death toll is 1,838.

New Delhi, Jul 19: Blaming the BJP for the political drama in Rajasthan, senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh on Sunday asked Sachin Pilot not to leave the grand old party.

In an interview to news agency, the former Madhya Pradesh chief minister said Pilot should not follow Jyotiraditya Scindia into the BJP, as he has bright future in Congress.

His remarks follow Pilot's open rebellion against the Ashok Gehlot government, which has been on shaky ground with at least 18 legislators backing the rebel leader.

Pilot was sacked as Rajasthan deputy chief minister and the state Congress chief recently and the Congress has accused the BJP of making efforts to topple the Gehlot-led government by indulging in horse-trading.

"The BJP is behind the crisis in Rajasthan," Singh said.

The Congress veteran said he tried to call Pilot but his calls and text messages went unanswered.

"Age is on your side. Ashok (Gehlot) may have offended you, but all such issues are best resolved amicably. Dont make the mistake that Scindia made. BJP is unreliable. Nobody who joined it from any other party has succeeded there," Singh said.

He said this is the first time that Pilot hasn't responded to him.

"Sachin is like my son. He respects me and I also like him. I called him three-four times and also texted him. He didn't revert. He used to respond immediately earlier," he said.

"It is good to be ambitious. How can one move forward without having ambitions, but along with ambition, one must also have commitment to your organisation, ideology and the nation," Singh said.

"I heard that he (Pilot) may form a new party. But what is the need for it. Has Congress not given him anything? He was made an MP at 26, a Union minister at 32, the state Congress president at 34 and deputy chief minister at 38. What else does he want? Time is on his side," Singh said.

If Pilot had any issue, then as the state party unit president, he should have called a meeting and discussed the matter, he said. Pilot could have involved Congress national general secretary and Rajasthan in-charge Avinash Pande in talks with Gehlot to resolve differences, he added.

"If you have faith in your legislators, why have you have confined 18-19 of them in ITC Grand hotel at Manesar in Haryana," Singh said.

This is the same hotel where the BJP kept MLAs from Maharashtra, Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh (during political dramas in those states), he said.

Pilot should forget whatever has happened, come back and sit across the table to discuss how Congress could be strengthened, he said

New Delhi, Jan 13: The Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union (JNUSU) has alleged that the varsity administration has blocked the registration of 300 students on the basis of 'fake Proctor inquiries'.

The union had on Saturday asked students of the university to pay their academic tuition fee but not the hiked hostel fee.

"Today the Vice Chancellor first blocked the fee payment portal and then blocked the payment of tuition fees. It is clear that the VC was lying through the teeth when he said students want to register but are not being allowed to by protesters," JNUSU president Aishe Ghosh said.

She said the VC has also blocked the registration of 300 students based on fake proctor enquiries which are not even completed.

"The truth is that it is the administration which does not want students to register and is blocking their registration," she said.

JNUSU vice president Saket Moon said that in the meetings held in HRD ministry, it was decided that the administration would take a lenient view on the students' protest and not take action against them.

He said many students, who opened the portal for registration found they had been academically suspended and could not register.

He said the JNUSU had softened its stand by saying that they would register by paying the old fees but that has been kept on hold.

On Sunday, the administration extended the date for the winter semester registration till January 15.
