India women's team in Archery World Cup final

World_Cup_finalKolkata, Jul 20: India finally came good assuring themselves at least a silver medal at the Archery World Cup Stage 3 being held in Medellin, Colombia.

According to information received here, the women's recurve team of Deepika Kumari, Laishram Bombayla Devi and Rimil Biruly, seeded No 2, lived up to their billing as they ousted the US opponents to make the final yesterday.

In the battle of heavyweights tomorrow, the Indian trio will take on the top seeded Chinese boasting London Olympics team silver medallists Jing Xu and Ming Cheng for the gold medal.

In the semis, Indians started poorly to trail the US team Michelle Gilbert, Miranda Leek and Khatuna Lorig 51-55 after the first end.

It was a reversal of fortunes in the second end as the Indians cut the Americans' four-point lead with a 55 to make it 106-all.

Both teams matched against each other as they were locked 162-162 taking the battle to an exciting fourth and final end.

India were a picture of consistency as they shot the X-ring and a perfect 10 for a 54, while the US faltered with a 49 as the former booked their final berth with 216-211 win.

Earlier in the quarters, India had beaten Venezuela 224-201.

India will have another hope in the compound men's team event where Rajat Chouhan, Ratan Singh Khuraijam and Sandeep Kumar will fight for a bronze against the hosts Colombians in the match scheduled later in the day.

The Indian trio, who had excelled posting 236 in their win over El Salvador team in the quarters, had a heartbreaking three points loss to the second seeded Frenchmen in the semis.

Sixth seeded Indians had a slender one point lead after the first end but Pierre-Julien Deloche, Christophe Doussot and Dominique Genet had a perfect second end of 60 as they went on to clinch 234-231.

India's hope in the men's recurve team had ended with their 220-223 loss to Canada in the quarters as the trio of Jayanta Talukdar, Tarundeep Rai and Atanu Das continued their woeful form.

Inexperienced compound women's team of Trisha Deb, Lily Chanu P and Jyothi Surekha Vennam too made a quarterfinal exit going doing to their US opponents

New Delhi, Mar 1: Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif on Sunday heaped praise on Ravindra Jadeja after the all-rounder took a spectacular catch on the second day of the Christchurch Test against New Zealand.

Jadeja grabbed a one-handed stunner at deep square leg in the 72nd over to dismiss Neil Wagner, who had to depart after scoring 21 runs.

"Sir Jadeja for a reason! Jadeja Airlines, flying high! Terrific stuff," Kaif tweeted.

In the match, Jadeja also impressed with the ball. The left-handed bowler took two wickets while giving away 22 runs.

On day two, India bundled out New Zealand on 235 runs in the second Test. However, in their second innings, Indian batsmen again struggled to tackle the New Zealand pacers and lost six wickets with a lead of just 97 runs.

India went to stumps at 90/6, with Trent Boult doing the majority of the damage with three wickets.

New Delhi, Jan 28: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is clear that while they have no problem with the Pakistan Cricket Board hosting the 2020 edition of the Asia Cup -- set to be a preparatory ground for the T20 World Cup in Australia -- the venue needs to be a neutral one as travelling to the neighbouring country isn't an option at present.

Speaking to news agency, a BCCI official said that the hosting rights is not an issue and it is just a case of picking a neutral venue as the Indian team wouldn't be travelling to Pakistan for the T20 tournament that will see the top Asian teams in action.

"The question isn't about the PCB hosting the tournament. It is about the venue and as things stand now, it is quite clear that we would need a neutral venue. There is no way that an Indian team can visit Pakistan to even participate in a multi-nation event like the Asia Cup. If the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is ok with an Asia Cup minus India then it is a different ball game. But if India is to participate in the Asia Cup, then the venue cannot be Pakistan," the official said.

In fact, issues in obtaining visa for Pakistan players to come and play the 2018 edition of the Asia Cup in India was one of the major reasons why the tournament was shifted out of the country with BCCI hosting the event in UAE.

The official said that the PCB can do just the same and host the event in a neutral venue. "A neutral venue is always an option. BCCI did it in 2018," the official pointed.

Cricket returned to Pakistan after a decade when Sri Lanka toured the nation in 2019. While Sri Lanka was the first nation to play a full series in the country, Bangladesh is currently in the country as they just finished playing three T20Is. They will play a Test from February 7 to 11 and then play a one-off ODI before playing the second Test from April 5 to 9.

New Delhi, Feb 7: It was on February 7, 1999, that Anil Kumble became just the second bowler in the history of cricket to take all ten wickets in an innings of a Test match.

He achieved the feat against Pakistan at Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium, now known as Arun Jaitley cricket stadium in Delhi during the second Test of the two-match series.

India had set Pakistan a target of 420 runs in the match and the visitors got off to a steady start as openers Shahid Afridi and Saeed Anwar put on 101 runs for the first wicket.

It was then Kumble who came into the attack and wreaked havoc on the Pakistani batting line-up.

The spinner, also known as 'Jumbo' first dismissed Afridi (41) in the 25th over. After the right-handed batter's dismissal, India kept on taking wickets through Kumble and Pakistan was reduced to 128/6 in no time.

Kumble then kept on taking wickets at regular intervals and he got his tenth scalp in the 61st over after dismissing Wasim Akram.

This effort enabled India to register a win by 212 runs, and Kumble became the second bowler after England's Jim Laker to take all ten wickets in a single Test inning.

Kumble finished with the bowling figures of 10-74 from 26.3 overs.

Kumble announced his retirement from international cricket in 2008 and finished with 619 wickets in the longest format of the game.

He has the third-highest number of wickets in Tests, only behind Sri Lanka's Muttiah Muralitharan (800) and Australia's Shane Warne (708).
