New Delhi, Jan 10: Indian Army is a conservative organisation that doesn't welcome adultery and the LGBT community, Army Chief Gen Bipin Rawat said here on Thursday.
Gen Rawat's comments come months after two historic verdicts from the Supreme Court that decriminalised homosexuality and ruled that what was happening between two adult individuals in their bedroom was not a matter for the State to look into.
Asked about Army's views on the SC rulings on Section 377 and Section 497 of Indian Penal Code, Gen Rawat said, "Army is conservative. We are not westernised and modern. We can't allow it to perpetuate into the Army," the Army chief said.
"A soldier, be it an officer or jawan, can't be allowed to worry about the family," he said.
The Army Chief was talking to the media ahead of the Army Day.
