Indian expats celebrate I-Day with gaiety, fervor

Expats celebrate I-Day1Riyadh/Jeddah, Aug 16: Members of the Indian community in the Kingdom donned patriotic colors on Friday as they congregated in the morning to celebrate their country’s Independence Day.

Flag-hoisting ceremonies took place at the Indian Embassy in Riyadh and the Jeddah Consulate.

In Jeddah, a colorful ceremony was held in the premises of the Consulate General of India. Consul General B.S. Mubarak hoisted the national flag and read out the president’s address to the nation. Children from the International Indian School-Jeddah sang patriotic songs and entertained the audience. The Indian Embassy, located inside the Diplomatic Quarter, saw the dawn of an eventful day when Ambassador Hamid Ali Rao hoisted the tricolor at 8:30 a.m.

A large number of Indians working in different sectors attended the ceremony.

It was followed by the recital of the national anthem. The ambassador read out Indian President Pranab Mukherjee’s address to the nation.

“India demands creative thinking in governance that enables fast-track development and ensures social harmony,” said Rao, quoting from the president’s message. Rao extended greetings and best wishes to all Indian expatriates in the Kingdom and commended the members of the community for their constructive and proactive role in strengthening bilateral relationship.

Exuding hope that the Saudi-India bilateral relations will get stronger, Rao said: “The Kingdom is the part of India’s extended neighborhood and the complementarity of interests in energy security make the two countries natural partners.”

The vibrant ambiance at the Indian Embassy was represented by well-known personalities, administrators and teachers.

Patriotic songs were presented by students from the International Indian School-Riyadh.

The national flag also fluttered proudly in Jeddah, Dammam and other cities in the Kingdom.

Indian community organizations in Riyadh and other major cities across the Kingdom lined up many cultural programs to celebrate the special occasion. The 2.8-million-strong Indian community is the largest expatriate community in the Kingdom.

Dubai, Aug 7: ‘Nama Tuluve’ Purushotham Salian, a staunch stalwart who always supported humanity and a strong pillar for Tuluvas in Dubai, passed away August, 4 at Al Tawam Hospital Al Ain. He was suffering from cancer and was admitted to Al Tawam Hospital Al Ain some time ago. He was on the last stage of illness which was not detected earlier.

His funeral last rites were conducted on Thursday August 7 at Jebel Ali cemetery in Hindu rites with a few of his family members present. Due to Covid pandemic, neither his body was able to be flown back to hometown nor could his two children come down to attend the funeral. However, it was said that his wish was to be cremated here in Dubai which unknowingly sometime back he whispered to one of his friends.

Purushotham had few years ago, survived a heart attack and fought back his life, though it had a minor paralytic effect on him. Even though, till recently he used to do his day-to-day work normally. He was a hard working personality and owned a readymade garment shop in Ajman and Dubai mostly taking care of clients with requirement of uniforms and coveralls. His dedication towards work was always appreciated by his clients who used to get their things delivered on time always.

He was never a publicity person and was helping the poor and needy in whatever ways he could silently. He strongly supported the community and was associated with Nama Tuluveru and Billawa community with commitment. He used to voluntarily come forward for the ground work of various functions of the community and used to be there until it was done perfectly.

Doha: Selvam aged 46 son of Subramanian hailing from Panakulam Village, Alangudi, Pudukkottai District in Tamilnadu province who worked as a technician, died in Qatar on April 24.

Due to challenging situation prevailing in both India & Qatar for body repatriation services, especially in Covid-19 atmosphere, Family is unable to progress further for past 2 months. At his stage Family of the deceased met Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), Pudukkottai office bearers and requested to intervene and help out, and also agreed to bury the body in Qatar itself.

Hence, SDPI delegates communicated with well-known Indian Expatriate welfare Organization - Qatar Indian Social Forum (QISF). QISF General Secretary Basheer Ahamed, Secretary Abdullatheef Madikeri and team collected the required documents from the family of the deceased and managed to clear all the necessary formalities from the police department, Health Department, Embassy of India and Hamad Medical Corporation within a short period of time and arranged for a peaceful burial of Mr. Selvam in Dukhan cemetery.

Karnataka Sports and Cultural Club (KSCC) organized Blood Donation Camp at Latifa Hospital, Oud Mehta Dubai on April 23rd, 2020 in association with Dubai Health Authority (DHA) and with support from Community Development Authority (CDA) Government of Dubai.

Blood Donation Drive started in the morning at 7:30 am to 6:00 pm. Around 48 people participated in this drive and donated blood to support the Dubai Blood Bank.

A potential shortage of blood for transfusions has been occurred due to a significant reduction in voluntary blood donations during this time of the COVID-19 pandemic. The current pandemic, health services are now running with shortages of blood availability. To support the DHA Blood Bank KSCC taken initiative to ensure that blood donations continued and are safe for both the donor and the recipient.

After taking safety precaution and safe distance during the blood donation donors feeling happy and honored to participate and donate blood at this pandemic situation. Club Manager Mr. Mohammad Shafi was also present during this event.

KSCC appreciated all the blood donors and be grateful to Dubai Health Authority (DHA), Community Development Authority (CDA), and Government of Dubai for their association for this event. They also thanked the volunteers and supporters.
