Indian Social Forum celebrates India’s 72th Independence Day in Riyadh

Riyadh: The celebration of the 72th Independence Day was organized on August 15th by the Central Committee of the Indian Social Forum Riyadh at the Al Mas Resturant Hall in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia. People from different Indian states and religions were present on the occasion which itself was a living example for unity in diversity.

The program was inaugurated with the unity song. TT George, the second secretary of the Indian Embassy was chief guest, Speaking after inaugurating the program, he said many civilizations have come and gone but the Indian civilization in the world is getting wealthy day by day.

Social Forum Central Committee president Janab Harris AngaragundiMangaluru chaired by the program and welcomed the gathering and guests,in his presidential speech he urged everyone to keep continuing thier good work for our Natiom as well as for indian community in Saudi Arabia.

Indian Social Forum convener Janab Afzarul Haq delivered the Independence Day message. He said India was formed based on concept of 'unity in diversity' and it becomes every indians responsibility to safeguard it.

He expressed concern over growing insecurities and lack of unity in the nation, He also told that the people who are operating on lines of fascism today are teaching the lesson of Nationalism to the ones who were in forefront to make India free from British rule, Freedom of speech, freedom to express the thoughts is being curbed systematically by killing the progressive thinkers and social activists, anyone who speaks against ruling govt. are being termed as anti-nationals which is against our democratic and constitutional values.

The mass killings and lynchings that are taking place in the name of cow and child trafficking is embarrassing for Indians present all over the world. He also told since the current govt. In India has no development works to present during upcoming elections, they are setting agenda to divide india on religious lines and gain votes and requested people not to fall om such traps of fascism.

Mr. Engineer Salman Khalid-Former President of Aligarh Muslim University Old Students Association, Mr. Basheer Ingapuzha -President of India Fraternity Forum Zonal Committee, Mr. Mariyappan - Air India Airport Manager , Mr. Srinivasan - Vice President of L & T company , Mr. Mohamed Hanif Shaikh  - Qidma Foundation Vice President, Ajmal  PV – President of MES, K N vasiph - Arab News reporter, Mr. Idavanna Ubaid- president of Media Forum. All the guest delivered the message of independence to non-resident of India. Gathering also requested for the special prayers the for the people of Kerala and Karnataka suffering due to flood. The program concluded by singing national anthem.

Basheer Karandur, General Secretary of Social Forum Central Committee, welcomed the gathering and Central Committee member Rasheed Kasimi Kerala presented the vote of thanks. Abdul Basheer was master of ceremony.

Indian Overseas Congress (IOC) Chaiman Dr Sam Pitroda held video conference with senior IOC office bearers across Middle Eastern countries on 14th April 2020 to review the impact of COVID-19 pandemic among Indians residing in the region. Almost all speakers appreciated the efforts initiated and  implemented by  respective governments to contain spread of the deadly virus as well as measures taken towards welfare of the people affected by the lockdown. 

IOC Presidents, Mohammed Mansour - Bahrain, Abdullah Manjeri - Saudi Arabia, Dr J Ratan kunar - Oman and Girish kumar - Qatar, highlighted the quality treatment of patients and finacial aid provided by governments and other authorities. Bahrain IOC president Mansour , also  apprised about the 'Food for Needy' drive in Association with KHK Heroes foundation, initiated by HH Sheikh Khalid Bin Hamad Al Khalifa and quality treatments as well as financial aid to local and expat residents.

Anura Mathai, IOC  Global Event Coordinator, spoke about certain problems of Indians in the UAE. IOC Middle East Convener, Mansoor Palloor, emphasised and requested IOC Chairman to urge Indian government to arrange immediate repatriation of indians stranded in Gulf countries. AICC Secretary, Himanshu Vyas, IOC Secretary Dr Arathi Krishna, Dr Arshi Malik (Abha), Mohiuddin Sirajudeen (Jeddah), Advocate Joseph Palathara (Dammam) Prasad Kodru, Jayati Maitra Ziyad Ahmed (Qatar) and Khursheed Alam (Gen Secretary- Bahrain) also apprised the participants about various issues relevant to the pandemic and suggested further initiatives to be undertaken. 

Dr Sam Pitroda briefed about sustained and consolidated efforts by all IOC members  during this unprecedented situation facing the world and assured that he would convey IOC  concerns to the government and try his best to ensure all possible help is made available to all needy Indians.

Manama: Kannada Sangha Bahrain President Mr. Pradeep Shetty and Vice President of Bahrain's prestigious KHK HEROES Foundation Mohammed Mansoor on Monday, May 11, met The Second Secretary (Consular & CW) of the Embassy of India, Bahrain Mr. P. K. Chowdhury in the Indian Embassy. 

The situation, problems and relief of Indians and Kannadigas residing in Bahrain during the COVID 19 Pandemic was discussed in detail. The distribution of food (dry ration) kits, as well as those seeking repatriation, was also discussed in the meeting.

When asked about the repatriation of distressed Kannadigas, the Second Secretary said that though the number of Kannadigas who wish to return home is not much compared to the rest of the states, still Embassy is compiling all the information and will do the needful soon. 

Mr. Shetty and Mr. Mansoor told the Second Secretary that those who are in problem can contact them and they are ready to do their best.
