Ink thrown at Union minister Nadda in Bhopal's AIIMS

Bhopal, Sep 17: An unidentified person threw ink at Union Health Minister J P Nadda at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhopal, amid protest by students over "poor facilities" at the institute.ink-attack

Ink was thrown at the Minister at the entrance of the AIIMS when he was in his car leaving the institute, surrounded by protesting students amid and rains and chaos. Few drops of ink fell on the Minister's kurta. An official of AIIMS Bhopal, on the condition of anonymity, said it is so far not known who threw the ink.

He said the police have started investigating the matter. Students had gathered to lodge protest over "poor facilities" at AIIMS when Nadda was at the premier medical college to dedicate a number of facilities.

A third year MBBS student Rishi Prem claimed two of the protesting students, Ijya Pandey and Anjali Krishna, sustained injuries as the Minister's vehicle made a forced exit. "No student of AIIMS college threw ink at Nadda. We protested silently against lack of infrastructure at AIIMS where no surgery has taken place yet," Prem, a student who hails from Kerala, claimed.

"We just wanted to talk to the Minister for improving AIIMS. We don't have even minimum facilities at the institute (required) for treating patients and learning. There is no permanent director at AIIMS," Prem added.

Director, AIIMS-Raipur, who is also acting in-charge of the Bhopal facility, Dr Nitin Nagarkar, was not available for comments despite repeated calls. The AIIMS source declined to comment on the condition of the two students who were injured.

New Delhi, Apr 15: With 1,076 new COVID-19 cases reported in the last 24 hours, India's tally of coronavirus cases has risen to 11,439, said the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Wednesday.

Out of the total tally, 9,756 cases are active while 1,306 patients have been cured/discharged and migrated.

With 38 new deaths reported in the last 24 hours, the death toll rises to 377.

According to the ministry, Maharashtra is the worst-affected state with 2,687 cases of which 259 patients have recovered/discharged while 178 patients have lost their lives due to the virus.

Delhi comes in at the second position with 1,561 cases of which 30 patients have recovered while 30 patients have succumbed to the virus.

Tamil Nadu is the third state with over 1,000 cases at 1,204 cases of which 81 have recovered and 12 have died due to the deadly virus.

Rajasthan is nearing the 1,000 mark with 969 cases of which 147 people have recovered while 3 patients are dead. Madhya Pradesh reported 730 cases including 51 patients recovered and 50 patients dead.

On Tuesday, in an address to the nation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the 21-day national lockdown has been extended till May 3.

Srinagar, Jun 19: Suspended Jammu and Kashmir DSP Davinder Singh, arrested while ferrying two Hizb-ul-Mujahideen terrorists in a vehicle on the Srinagar-Jammu Highway earlier this year, was granted bail by a Delhi court on Friday, his lawyer said.

Singh and another accused in the case - Irfan Shafi Mir - were granted the relief by the court in a case filed by special cell of Delhi Police, noting that the probe agency failed to file charge sheet within 90 days from his arrest, as prescribed under law, their lawyer M S Khan said.

The bail was granted on a personal bond of Rs 1 lakh and two sureties of like amount.

Ayodhya, Aug 5: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday recalled the significance of the path of 'maryada' associated with Lord Ram in the backdrop of the situation created by COVID-19 and emphasised the importance of social distancing and wearing face masks.

He said that the current situation demands 'maryada' should be 'do gaz ki doori, mask hai zaroori' and exhorted everyone to follow it.

In his speech after laying the foundation stone of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, the Prime Minister said the temple of Lord Ram will inspire and guide humans for ages to come.

He said that the path of `maryada' followed by Lord Ram is all the more necessary today in the situation created by COVID-19.

"The `maryada' (need) today is do gaj ki doori, mask hai jaroori (keep distance of two yards, wear mask). The Almighty may keep all the citizens healthy and happy, this is my prayer. The blessings of Mother Sita and Shri Ram be always there on the citizens," he said.

The Prime Minister termed the occasion as historic and said that India is starting a glorious chapter when people across the country are excited and emotional to have finally achieved what they had been waiting for centuries.
