New Delhi, Nov 23: The board meeting of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has ended but people who follow the Ministry of Finance and the central bank and also keep an eye on every development of the Mint Street and North Block are curious to know that what all happened in the nine-hour marathon meeting that took place at the RBI office in Mumbai on Monday.

However, this story will give you a complete picture of the mood of the board meeting and how the top notch reacted in that meeting where the nation was assuming that an unhealthy spat between the RBI and the central government would widen further.

On the condition of anonymity, one of the Board Members told ANI, "We attended the Monday meeting with complete preparation and were not tensed. It was an intellectual debate and meeting was intellectually stimulating."

He further revealed that out of nine long hours of meeting, seven hours were spent on presentation only.

One of the sources aware of the development said, "The board meeting was chaired by the RBI Governor (Urjit Patel) and attended by four deputy governors. One of the deputy governors NS Vishwanathan gave the presentation on behalf of the RBI."

He said, "The presentation was made on Basel norms, MSME sector and Economic Capital framework. The RBI presentation was purely on the database."

From the government side, Secretaries Department of Economic Affairs SC Garg and Department of Financial Affairs Rajiv Kumar gave the presentations.

The government nominees' presentation covered the overall current situation of the banking system, Non Performing assets (NPAs), stressed assets and some sectoral issues like MSME's etc.

The RBI's representatives had their own views and queries on the presentation made by the government nominees. Similarly, the government nominees shared their own views and queries on the presentation made by the Deputy Governor.

Another source told ANI, "After the presentation, discussion took place pointwise."

On being asked whether there was any kind of tension or a heated argument between the Centre and the RBI representative, he said, "After seven hour of high-level presentation, we discussed our agenda and finally after two hours the meeting ended in very cordial manner."

"We can say that the speculation in media which were going on from last 15 to 20 days will be stopped now, but we can't say that differences are over. The decisions which were taken were commonly agreed, but on some issues like Prompt Corrective Action (PCA), economic capital, where a committee will take decision there are still some differences," the source said.

"What the committee will say it will depend on them but it has best gone into peace until the next board meeting in December," the sources added.

Theni, Mar 29: A young man under home quarantine for coronavirus after return from Sri Lanka suddenly ran out of his house and fatally bit a 80-year old woman in his neighbourhood in a village near here, police said on Saturday.

The woman with injuries in her neck was hospitalised late Friday after the incident but died on Saturday without responding to treatment, they said.

The man, a resident of Jakkamanayakanpatti and engaged in seasonal business in clothing, was overpowered and handed over to police, who arrested him and investigations were on.

He had recently returned from Sri Lanka and directed to remain under quarantine by health authorities as per the protocol for foreign returnees to check coronavirus spread.

He came out of his house on Friday evening and all of a sudden, denuded himself and began running through the street.

Shocked family members including his father gave a chase even as he caught hold of Nachiyammal, seated on her house’s front yard and bit hard her neck.

The man’s kin overpowered him and admitted the woman to nearby Bodi Government Hospital where doctors on Saturday said she succumbed to her injuries, not responding to treatment. Health authorities were unavailable for comments immediately.

New Delhi, Feb 25: Condemning the violence in Delhi, the Congress on Tuesday demanded that the Prime Minister, the Home Minister and the Chief Minister of Delhi come forward to ensure peace and maintain brotherhood while rising above partisan politics.

"This is Gandhi, Nehru, Patel's India, can any Indian accept this mindless violence? Congress appeals to the people of Delhi to maintain communal harmony and thwart all attempts of the forces dividing the country on the basis of religion," Congress' chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala told reporters.

Unabated violence and incidents of stone-pelting and murder in the national capital have shattered the nation, he said, while referring to the riots in northeast Delhi over the Citizenship (Amendment) Act that continued for the third day, and demanded stern action against the culprits.

"Our appeal to the prime minister, the home minister and the Delhi chief minister is, can you rise to the occasion, leave aside your political partisanship and views, and become really not leaders of your parties but leaders of the society so that harmony, peace, and non-violence prevail," he said.

The Congress party will stand with the Centre and the Delhi government in every way to maintain brotherhood and harmony in the society, he said.

"Do not fail this country because you belong to different political parties," Surjewala said, adding this was a sincere appeal "on behalf of people of Delhi and the country" to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

"There is no place for violence in Gandhi ji's India... Today there is a need to establish peace on the ground and maintain brotherhood," he said.

Surjewala said the party also prays for the speedy recovery of DCP Amit Sharma and the hundreds of other people who have been injured in the violence.

"We also condemn the firing at three journalists Arvind Gunasekar, Saurabh Shukla and Akash and pray for their good health," he said.

"We strongly condemn these brutal riots and demand that the culprits are identified and stern action is taken against the real culprits and miscreants. The Congress mourns the death of Head Constable Ratan Lal and others in the violence," Surjewala said.
