Intra-college Mediquiz: Sudhamshu Kashyap, Aveena Kalal duo claims trophy

Mangaluru, Sept 1: The Department of General Medicine of city based A J Institute of Medical Sciences conducted a intra collegiate 7th Annual “Mediquiz” contest for the under graduate students at their conference hall today.

Dean of the college Dr Ashok Hegde graced the occasion as chief guest, in his address he advised the under graduates and post graduate students to enhance their knowledge by participating in the quiz contest regularly to achieve success in their medical professional career.

He later congratulated all the 8 teams qualified for the final round and awarded Trophy, prizes, merit certificates to the winning team of Sudhamshu Kashyap and Aveena Kalal and Runners up team Prithvi Shetty and Poorna Prasadand congratulated them on their unique achievements.

Former Dean Dr. Ramesh Pai, Senior Prof. Dr. PrabhakarRao and Head of the Dept. of Medicine Dr. E.V.S. Maben were guests of honour on this occasion.

Professor of Dept of General medicine Dr. DevdasRai was the quiz master he informed that the Dist. level inter collegiate medical quiz contestwill be conducted on 29.09.2018at their college premises and the winners are qualified to participate in the contest.

18 teams from college contested in the preliminary round and 8 teams qualified for the final round. Dr. Andrew Alex Vargheese and Dr. Vallish Shenoy assisted Dr Raias score markers. Dr Nehal welcomed, Dr Naidila Jain Proposed a vote of thanks.

Udupi, May 21: In a shocking development, as many as 27 fresh coronavirus positive cases were reported in the coastal district of Udupi today. 

Another shocker is, 16 among 27 covid-19 patients are children. The rest are six men and five women. 

Interestingly, all of them have inter-state travel history. 23 had come from Maharashtra and 3 from Telangana. Another one had come from Kerala to Manipal. More details are awaited.

Bengaluru, Jul 18: Vendors in Bengaluru are finding it hard to earn a livelihood as the state government has allowed the sale of products only for a few hours each day. The lockdown imposed by the Karnataka government on July 14 will continue till July 22.

Speaking to ANI, Vanajakshi, a local vendor said, "We took loans from banks and small financiers to run our business. But we are finding it tough to pay back as our livelihoods have been hit."
"Because of the lockdown, no one comes to buy and markets remain vacant. There was a time when the Gandhi Nagar market was filled with customers, but now it looks like a vacant playground," she added.

Mythri, an advocate, said, "Look at the conditions of vendors. It's precarious. They do not have any business at all. Even now they have been allowed to sell products till 12 noon, which is not sufficient. It's time for the government to step in and provide assistance. If the Central government can reduce corporate taxes, why can't it help them? At least it will help them pass off these difficult times. "

"They are earning through daily wages. The government imposed lockdown suddenly. Where will they go? The city market in Bengaluru is famous. At least 8,000 people come from slum areas. People here are poor. The lockdown was done suddenly and led to problems for these people," said Congress MLA Zamil Ahmed Khan.

Referring to a recent meeting with the chief minister BS Yediyurappa, he said, "During the meeting called by the CM, I suggested that food kits must be arranged for vendors. The CM said the government is providing rice and wheat but that's not enough."

The deceased was running a hotel named Hotel Samtappa here.
