ISF organises Independence Day across the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia

Dammam, Aug 16: The Karnataka chapter of Indian Social Forum (ISF) organized an ‘INDEPENDENDENCE DAY PROGRAM’across the Eastern Province as part of celebrating 68th Independence Day of India. The program mainly held in Dammam, Khobar and Jubail which was witnessed by large public gathering.

NRIs from different parts of Karnataka took part with great enthusiasm on August 15.

While delivering the message speakers and chief guests reiterated that, while we celebrating 68 years of independence, we need to understand that freedom of the nation lies in the improvement in the living standards of the entire underprivileged and marginalized communities who have been victims of discrimination and in order to make India a great place to live.

In Dammam, Mr. Faruq M Executive member ISF Karnataka, Mangalore Association for Saudi Arabia (MASA) Executive Member Mr. Narendra Shetty, Hidaya Foundation Dammam Unit President Mr. Abbas Uchila&Mr. Anwar Shimoga Vice President ISF ad hoc state Committee were the chief guest of the event and they openionedthat the expatriates should be aware of the situation of our beloved nation and should have their say in the political process as it is very relevant because maintaining apolitical stand is now misunderstood as good quality of a responsible citizen

Mr. Sarfudidn ISF Branch Ad hoc committee presided the program. The event was anchored by Azhar T. Welcomed by AbdurrahmanMoodbidre ISF Ad hoc Branch Committee Secretary and Mr. Sadiq Gulbarga Ad Hoc Branch Committee G. Secretary passed vote of thanks.

In Khobar, the guetsstressed that the need of every Indian to take responsibility towards betterment and uplift of deprived and less fortunate people, and it is the duty of every expatriate to extend our support in all possible ways.

Member Hakeem Bangalore and ISF ad hoc branch committee President Mr. TajudidnSwere the Chief Guests of the Event. . Saleem GK welcomed the program ,vote thanks was by Hafiz Moolur& Program anchored by Mr. Ashraf Kukkaje.

All where programsbegan with the Unity Song “SaareJahanseAchaa..” and end up with National Anthem. Hundreds of the people participated across the Eastern Province.

Dubai, Aug 6: Non-resident Indian entrepreneur and philanthropist Dewakara Alva passed away on Thursday August 6. He was 63.

Alva, who hailed from Mangaluru, was the director of Federal Insurance Brokers LLC, Dubai and was residing in Dubai for around four decades. He was reportedly suffering from health problems for last few months. 

He was a patron of Tulu and Kannada language and culture in United Arab Emirates. He was a member of various NRI organizations including UAE Tulu Koota and UAE Bunts

Alva is survived by wife Saritha, daughter Powshali, and son Manal.

Indian Overseas Congress (IOC) Chaiman Dr Sam Pitroda held video conference with senior IOC office bearers across Middle Eastern countries on 14th April 2020 to review the impact of COVID-19 pandemic among Indians residing in the region. Almost all speakers appreciated the efforts initiated and  implemented by  respective governments to contain spread of the deadly virus as well as measures taken towards welfare of the people affected by the lockdown. 

IOC Presidents, Mohammed Mansour - Bahrain, Abdullah Manjeri - Saudi Arabia, Dr J Ratan kunar - Oman and Girish kumar - Qatar, highlighted the quality treatment of patients and finacial aid provided by governments and other authorities. Bahrain IOC president Mansour , also  apprised about the 'Food for Needy' drive in Association with KHK Heroes foundation, initiated by HH Sheikh Khalid Bin Hamad Al Khalifa and quality treatments as well as financial aid to local and expat residents.

Anura Mathai, IOC  Global Event Coordinator, spoke about certain problems of Indians in the UAE. IOC Middle East Convener, Mansoor Palloor, emphasised and requested IOC Chairman to urge Indian government to arrange immediate repatriation of indians stranded in Gulf countries. AICC Secretary, Himanshu Vyas, IOC Secretary Dr Arathi Krishna, Dr Arshi Malik (Abha), Mohiuddin Sirajudeen (Jeddah), Advocate Joseph Palathara (Dammam) Prasad Kodru, Jayati Maitra Ziyad Ahmed (Qatar) and Khursheed Alam (Gen Secretary- Bahrain) also apprised the participants about various issues relevant to the pandemic and suggested further initiatives to be undertaken. 

Dr Sam Pitroda briefed about sustained and consolidated efforts by all IOC members  during this unprecedented situation facing the world and assured that he would convey IOC  concerns to the government and try his best to ensure all possible help is made available to all needy Indians.

Dammam: Indian Social Forum, Dammam, Karnataka chapter organized a "Live along with COVID-19" webinar on 29 May 2020 in association with HealthCare Polyclinic, Dammam.

The webinar at Zoom App. featured over 150+ resident Kannadigas from Saudi Arabia's eastern and neighboring provinces.

Dr. Shailendranath made a presentation on the program and gave useful information. Indian Social Forum Dammam, Karnataka Chapter President Sharif Joktake delivered the keynote address. General Secretary Irshad Jokatte stalled the program.
