Ishrat Jahan case: Intelligence Bureau officer to be arrested soon?

ishratAhmedabad, Jun 27: The Prime Minister's Office has cleared the decks for the arrest of a senior Intelligence Bureau officer in a case which had brought the intelligence set-up in direct confrontation with CBI.

IB special director Rajinder Kumar is likely to be arrested weeks after a chargesheet is filed in early July by CBI in the Ishrat Jahan encounter case. Kumar is due to retire on July 31 and CBI is under pressure to arrest him only after his retirement.

Kumar will be charged with conspiracy, abduction and multiple murders. In fact, the draft chargesheet describes Kumar as the mastermind of this operation and seeks his early arrest for custodial interrogation - something IB does not want to happen while Kumar is still in service.

Altogether four persons branded as Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists by IB were killed in a fake encounter which took place on the outskirts of Ahmedabad on June 15, 2005. A college student from Mumbra near Mumbai, was a surprise package in a gang which was allegedly out to kill Narendra Modi, in what is now seen as a bogus story scripted by Kumar. Apparently, Kumar knew Modi very well from his days in Chandigarh in he late 90s and used to address him as 'Modibhai'.

The IB had thrown a fit when Kumar was first summoned for interrogation earlier this month. The matter had reached the PMO and the National Security Adviser was asked to intervene. The evidence against Kumar was, however, quite overwhelming and IB had to finally give in because CBI furnished details of Kumar's involvement in multiple dubious encounters.

Hyderabad, Feb 10: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi continued his tirade against PM Modi and Amit Shah against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), National Population Register (NPR) and National Register of Citizens (NRC). "We are ready to take bullets in our chests but we will not show our papers.

We are ready to take bullets in our chests as we love our country," Owaisi said further.

New Delhi, May 22: Reserve Bank Governor Shaktikanta Das on Friday extended the moratorium on payment of loans by another three months till August to provide much-needed relief to borrowers whose income has been hit due to the coronavirus crisis.

In March, the central bank had allowed a three-month moratorium on payment of all term loans due between March 1, 2020, and May 31, 2020.

Accordingly, the repayment schedule and all subsequent due dates, as also the tenor for such loans, were shifted across the board by three months.

As a result of this moratorium, individuals’ EMI repayments of loans taken were not deducted from their bank accounts, providing much-needed liquidity.

The EMI payments will restart only once the moratorium time period expires on August 31.

New Delhi, Jun 26: "Iam Indira Gandhi's granddaughter, not an undeclared BJP spokesperson like some of the opposition leaders," Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Friday said, as she alleged that the Uttar Pradesh government is threatening her through various departments for speaking the truth. Priyanka Gandhi's dare to the Uttar Pradesh government came days after the Agra administration asked her to withdraw within 24 hours the claim of high coronavirus deaths in the district.

The Congress general secretary in-charge UP East has accused the Yogi Adityanath government of indulging in propaganda instead of dealing with the pandemic. "As a public servant, my duty is towards the people of Uttar Pradesh. And this duty is to put out the truth before them and not to put forth government propaganda. The UP government is wasting its time by threatening me through its various departments," Priyanka Gandhi said in a tweet in Hindi.

"They can take whatever action they want, I will keep putting forth the truth. I am Indira Gandhi's granddaughter not an undeclared BJP spokesperson like some of the opposition leaders," she said. This week, Priyanka Gandhi repeatedly attacked the Uttar Pradesh government over the "high" COVID-19 mortality rate in Agra and on other issues related to the state government's handling of the pandemic.
