Bengaluru Feb 6: Union Minister D V Sadananda Gowda said on Monday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had "understated" the percentage of commission the Congress government allegedly charges to clear projects.

"It's actually 30% and not 10% as the prime minister said," Gowda told reporters. "This includes 10% advance and another 20% at the time of billing."

BJP leader and former minister C T Ravi concurred. "If we knew Modi was going to talk about commissions, we would have informed him that it can go up to 23% at the time of bill payment," he said.

Gowda also hit out at Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy on the law and order situation in the state. "When we ask him to focus on the situation here, why does he refer to Uttar Pradesh? After Yogi Adityanath became the chief minister there, things have improved," he said.

On the Mahadayi issue, Gowda said it was former Congress president Sonia Gandhi who had politicised the issue. "When Amit Shah came forward to solve the issue, the Congress tried to politicise it. Our stand is that the issue has to be resolved outside the tribunal."

Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly Jagadish Shettar mocked the ruling Congress for putting up hoardings in the city, claiming the state was top ranked in industrial investments. "This is a lie. Only 15.7% of the investments have been realised so far," he said.

Leader of the Opposition in the Council K S Eshwarappa accused Chief Minister Siddaramaiah of violating protocol during Modi's visit. "As chief minister, he did not show the basic courtesy of receiving the prime minister," he said.

Gowdaji, while you (BJP) having thousands of rotten corpse in your cupboard, you are pointing fingers at others clean cupboards. Did you forget your party's various previous scams such as BBMP, HUDCO, MINING, corruption, Porn, immoral & illicit relations of your leaders......in Karnataka. Even if you repeat your LIES & DECITE a thousand times, it will not work in Karnataka. The writing on the wall is very clear when you took out the campaign, you coud not read it.

 

MODIJI came to Karnataka and behaved in Karnataka as the BJP leader and NOT as PM of Secular India. Siddaramaiah's response was befitting and apt.

New Delhi, Jan 9: A total of 10,349 people involved in the farming sector, including 5,763 farmers or cultivators, committed suicide in 2018, the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB)'s report on 'Crime in India-2018' reveals.

The annual data was released around three months after the government released the NCRB report on 'Crime in India-2017'.

As per the latest data, of the 10,349 persons, who committed suicide in 2018, 4,586 were agricultural labourers.

The number of suicides in the farming sector in 2018 accounted for 7.7 per cent of the total suicide-victims (1,34,516) in the country, the NCRB data said.

Suicides in the country in 2018 rose to 1,34,516 from 1,29,887 in 2017.

The rate of suicides was up from 9.9 per cent in 2017 to 10.2 per cent in 2018. In 2017, a total of 10,655 farming sector-suicides were reported.

West Bengal, Bihar, Odisha, Uttarakhand, Meghalaya, Goa, Chandigarh, Daman and Diu, Delhi, Lakshadweep and Puducherry reported zero suicides of farmers or cultivators and agricultural labourers during 2018, said the report.

Mangaluru, Feb 10: Sandeep Malani has been of lately winning back to back awards at various events and film festivals. Being an actor, he has won 3 Best Actor awards (2 for his gripping performance in the Kannada feature film, Mookavismitha, directed by Gurudutt Sreekanth and one award for his multi faceted performance in the short film, Nishyabda Nishi directed by his son Silver). These awards were honored at the Indian Cine Film Festival in Mumbai and Karunadu Kannada Rathna Award in Bengaluru.

He also won an award for his woman empowerment film, Sulige Sikkidaaga in Pune, while his musical documentary on Sridevi titled SrideviBaaz won him two awards at Pune and Kolhapur International film festivals. His other short film on transgender Mamta (Maternal Love) won the Audience Awards in USA.

Very recently he was honored by the Filmaholic Foundation in Bengaluru for being a successful short film maker with two Kannada films Jo Jo Laali and Sulige Sikkidaaga, both featuring award winning actress Kalpana Pandit, winning multiple awards and making news at International Film Festivals. This honor was given at the Karnataka Youth International Short Film Festival.

With donning so many feathers of awards in his hat, he recently bagged the most prestigious one; that being receiving the Award for Best Feature Film shot on Mobile for his film ‘Maa – Yeh CineMaa Hai’ shot on iPhone at the 1st ever IMFF India (International Mobile Film Festival India 2020) held at World Trade Center, Mumbai on 8th February.

With a whole lot short films in the category and barely few feature films in the Feature Film Category, Malani verged out to be the winner as his Hindi film was a complete family entertainer that of 5 songs, sentiment value, and a wholesome entertainer with 100 artists working in the film that consists of stage and television actors, newcomers, models and common people. The film starred Sandeep’s family members playing important roles. His mother, Meena Malani (playing the title role), wife Reshma Malani (playing one of the lead actress) and son Silver Malani (playing an important character). The cast includes Mahesh Dulam, Anita Dulam, Ranjeet Jha, Bharath Lakshmikanth, Mahendra Pandey, Vishal Digani, Akash Hora, Shuba Raksha, Sanjukta Ghosh, Sharanya Kaur, Varsha Acharya, Kkewal Sharma, Anant Joshi, Vivek Punjabi, Valerian Menezes, Nigel Pereira. Kolhapur, May 27: Praising the Muslims of Ichalkaranji town in the Kolhapur district for making invaluable contribution for setting up of a new intensive care unit in Indira Gandhi Memorial (IGM) hospital for treatment of corona infected patients, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has said that with this donation, they have set an ideal example before the country.

While dedicating a 10-bed ICU unit at IGM hospital online from Mumbai, during Eid al Fitr, Mr Thackeray said that by donating Rs 36 lakh for ICU unit at IGM hospital, the Muslim community has set an ideal example before the country as to how to celebrate the festival.

The Muslims of Ichalkaranji made the donation following an appeal by the state government about avoiding unnecessary expenses for celebrating the Eid.

Minister of State for Health Rajendra Patil-Yadravkar, MP Dharysheel Mane, MLAs Prakash Awade and Raju Awale, district collector Daulat Desai, district superintendent of police Dr Abhinav Deshmukh, Zilla Parishad chief executive officer Aman Mittal, district surgeon Dr B C Kempipatil and others were present on the occasion.
