It's official: India to play six bilateral series against Pak

June 26, 2014

Karachi, Jun 26: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) today said it has signed a binding agreement with the BCCI, in which two countries will play six bilateral series over the next eight years under the new future tours program.india-pak

The PCB said in a statement from Lahore that it had made extraordinarily gains at the International Cricket Council's (ICC) annual meeting in Melbourne, which included the agreement with India.

"Of the three major concessions that PCB Chairman Najam Sethi was able to secure to Pakistan's great advantage are: After N Srinivasan's election as the first ICC Chairman in a landslide, India has officially turned the MOUs signed earlier this year with regard to six rubbers between the two nations into binding agreements straightaway," the statement said.

"Four of these will be hosted by the PCB in the UAE or Pakistan with mutual consent. The six tours are now part of the Future Tours Programme and are to be played from 2015 to 2023," it said.

The PCB said another major achievement was the ICC agreeing to grant Pakistan the fourth rank after the 'Big Three' – India, England and Australia – in terms of the percentage of revenue to be received from the ICC in the next eight years from broadcasting and other rights on ICC fixtures.

"The third big recognition is, the ICC confirming Pakistan to get the position of the global body's President for one year with effect from June 2015," it added.

Pakistan had under the supervision of Zaka Ashraf (former Chairman) initially opposed the governance changes and new financial model brought forth by India, Australia and England. But when Najam Sethi replaced Ashraf and represented Pakistan at the last ICC meeting, he said Pakistan would conditionally support the changes in return for concessions. One of which was the MOUs signed with the Indians for the six series.

India has not played a full bilateral series with Pakistan since 2007, although in December, 2013 Pakistan toured India for a short one-day series.

Sethi said in a statement that the present situation completely different from the situation when Pakistan stood utterly isolated before he (Sethi) was appointed Chairman by the Patron, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in the second week of February.

"The PCB had organised itself and planned to get maximum advantage for Pakistan cricket from an extremely precarious position. We have accomplished all our objectives.

And I am positive that in the times to come Pakistan cricket shall greatly benefit from what PCB has been able to obtain for it today," Sethi said.

Dhaka, Jun 20: Former Bangladesh skipper Mashrafe Mortaza on Saturday tested positive for coronavirus.

The skipper had gone for a coronavirus Test last week, and now his reports have come back as positive, ESPNCricinfo reported.

As per a report in ESPNCricinfo, it is not known how Mortaza contracted the virus.

Mashrafe, also a member of the parliament from Narail 2 constituency, had stepped down as the ODI captain of the country in March this year.

Covid-19 cases have crossed 1,00,000 mark in Bangladesh and the government is now planning area-wise lockdown.

Bangladesh was slated to face Sri Lanka in July in a three-Test series and the side would have later hosted New Zealand in August, but both series look unlikely now.

The Asia Cup, scheduled for September, is also uncertain due to the coronavirus.

Islamabad, Jun 13: Pakistan cricket team’s former captain Shahid Afridi, who has tested positive for coronavirus,  appears to have contracted the virus during his recent visit to Muzaffarabad city of Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) where Pakistan has been sending its corona positive patients.

The former Pakistan cricketer was seen attending gatherings in Muzaffarabad last month without wearing a mask and not maintaining social distancing. He spewed venom against India during his rallies.

Afridi visited PoK to also express his solidarity with the people there who have been left to fend for themselves in combating COVID-19 as Pakistan has refused to provide any COVID fighting equipment like PPE kits and ventilators to the area’s handful of hospitals.

In fact, Pakistan has been using the PoK as a “dumping ground” for COVID-19 affected persons from all across the country as authorities want to keep Punjab province free of corona positive persons.

The locals held massive protests against Pakistan for setting up quarantine centres and shifting patients from parts of Pakistan to PoK.

People are immensely suffering in Pakistan occupied Kashmir due to spread of coronavirus as the region lacks proper medical facilities and has a handful of COVID-19 testing labs. There is also lack of expert medical staff to conduct COVID-19 tests.

A large number of people here are presumed asymptomatic and they are fast spreading the virus because of lack of medical care.

Pakistan has reported over 1,25,000 coronavirus cases and 2,463 casualties. In Pakistan occupied Kashmir, the COVID-19 cases have increased to 534, whereas in Gilgit-Baltistan 1,030 have been  reported.
