J-K DGP urges families of militants to shun violence

Srinagar, Jun 30: Jammu and Kashmir Police chief S P Vaid on Saturday urged the families of militants in the Valley to appeal to their sons to leave the path of violence and promised all possible assistance, including rehabilitation for those who leave militant ranks.

"Today once again I urge to the families to appeal to their boys who have taken the wrong path to leave the path of violence & (and) come home,” the DGP wrote on Twitter.

He said the Jammu and Kashmir police will provide all possible assistance to those who shun the path of violence and return to mainstream.

"It is highly unfortunate & painful to see loss of life. @JmuKmrPolice promises to provide all possible assistance including rehabilitation (sic)," Vaid said.

The DGP had in the past also appealed to the families of Kashmiri militants to urge their sons to leave militancy and return to mainstream.

Since last year, more than a dozen militants have laid down their arms in Kashmir when police announced that they will accept offer of surrender of local militants even during ongoing encounters. Most of these militants have returned home after appeals by their families to shun the path of violence.

New Delhi, Mar 29: The Centre on Sunday asked state governments and Union Territory administrations to effectively seal state and district borders to stop movements of migrant workers during lockdown, officials said.

During a video conference with Chief Secretaries and DGPs, Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba and Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla asked them to ensure that there is no movement of people across cities or on highways as the lockdown continues.

"There has been movement of migrant workers in some parts of the country. Directions were issued that district and state borders should be effectively sealed," a government official said.

States were directed to ensure there is no movement of people across cities or on highways.

Only movement of goods should be allowed.

District Magistrates and SPs should be made personally responsible for implementation of these directions, the official said.

Adequate arrangements for food and shelter of poor and needy people including migrant labourers be made at the place of their work, the official said.

New Delhi, Jun 15: A total of 1,15,519 samples of COVID-19 have been tested in the last 24 hours taking the total samples tested to 57,74,133 in the country, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said.

"Total sample tested 57,74,133 and samples tested in the last 24 hours is 1,15,519," said ICMR.

With an increase of 11,502 cases in the past 24 hours, the COVID-19 count in India reached 3,32,424 on Monday, according to the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry.

The COVID-19 count includes 1,53,106 active cases while 1,69,798 patients have been cured and discharged or migrated so far, and the toll due to COVID-19 has now reached 9,520.

Sopore, Jul 1: Police rescued a three-year-old boy from getting hit by bullets during a terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Sopore on Wednesday.

Earlier in the day, a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan and a civilian lost their lives after terrorists fired upon a CRPF patrolling party in Sopore.

Two of the injured CRPF jawans are known to be in critical condition. Three CRPF personnel were also injured in the attack, as per CRPF.
